>>And the icing on the cake was our Northie VP responding to him saying that it is a regional movie made from the state from where I belonged. He said it is a TELUGU Movie which is minting money at the box office nation wide. For once I was happy that Northies understood that anything down south is NOT Madrasi and finally Telugu movie is acknowledged world wide. Surely a sense of pride moment :-) It made me curious to watch this movie all the more. Will try to catch up soon in a theatre nearby.

1. SKIN

It is a universal phenomena that HUMANS always make the fair skin people superior as against the dark skinned ones (irrespective of the talent, attitude, character etc taking back seat). History proves this globally. Coming to Indian Psyche (atleast a majority) :

a) Our first requirement during a marriage alliance is Girl should be fair.
b) South Indians always look up to their northern counter parts as better looking only because they are fairer than southies. Inspite of we having some great looking people specially from few communities (this is just for example and it does not mean we do not have in other communities - like Iyers/Iyeganers in TN, Malayali Christians, Tulu community in Karnataka who have beautiful ladies...Raju communities in Andhra who generally have good looking men. But still we pale when we stand in front of a north indian. Just because they are fair, why do we always have this inferiority complex. Most of the north Indians might be fair but face lo kala vundadhu.
c) Shapes & Size - South Men & Women generally have huge base and hence western outfits like tight Jeans, long gowns, skirts look good for the northies (atleast comparison with urban crowd).

2. Command on English & Personality

Inspite of having technical expertise, intellectual knowledge, creative skills, we southies always are overshadowed by Northies just because they present themselves well. They have good command on English...choosing the flowery language and the self confidence they ooze out. Empty & Shallow vessels make more noise, but only they are heard in the crowd. This is exactly the NORTHIES do. Few examples :

a) In the corporate world and PSU, many Chief Executives are TAM Brams (Tamilian Brahamins), but they are not media savvy and never hog the limelight. whereas Northies are more flamboyant.

b) IN the movie industry, I am shocked how Prabhu Deva, Murugadoss, Shanker, SSR, become so self conscious in national media. They stammer, giggle and lack self confidence. Actors are all the more worst. Prabhas could not even speak a single line clearly in the promotional events of Bahubali. Same with Chiranjeevi, Rajni, Kamal, Vijay, Ajit, Mahesh Babu.

I have travelled and stayed (studied & worked) both in North India (Delhi, Mumbai) and also in South (Chennai, Hyd, Vizag). So, I can vouch that my observation is true to most of the instances.

B/w on a different note all together, yesterday I had a meeting with a client and senior leadership. After the meeting my vice president who is a Punjabi asked the client to join him for a coffee break. I accompanied them, Client who is an American was asking about what is this movie Bahubali about. It seems he heard that they spent $40 million dollars (which is peanuts for Hollywood, as they pay for their lead actor or technician) and is made on par with the Hollywood's best.
