The Project :
V.G.T.M. U.D.A. intends to develop the Krishna river front on downstream of Prakasam
Barrage at Vijayawada on both sides, in order to pull its waterfront back from marginal use
and neglect into the mainstream of public activity and investment and to generate quality
urban spaces for the people.
i) Existing scenario
Encroachments in to the river & on river bund.
Dumping garbage, letting in sewage etc. leading to water pollution
Misuse of river bund & river bed.
Access to river is denied / closed due to haphazard & irregular
development.
Aesthetic beauty is totally vanished except from barrage or bridge
Irregular mining
36 ii) Aims & Objectives of the Project:
• Conservation of the river improving the surrounding environment & ecological
balance
• Streamlining the River course, Reduce risk of erosion and flooding in flood prone
neighbourhoods
• Prevent the flow of sewage in to river; keep the river clean and pollution free.
• Make the river front accessible to the public.
• Construction of stop dam/causeway preferably about 10 km/suitable location
from barrage down stream.
• Maintain sufficient water level in the entire stretch between stop dam and
Barrage so as to promote Boating/Water Sports etc.
• To Facilitate Recharge the ground water level in the city and surroundings.
• Prevent further encroachments into the river and on the river bund.
• Reclamation of leftover land parcels.
• Create riverfront parks, promenades and Ghats to enjoy water front & water
sports facilities
• Provide Vijayawada with new socio, cultural and economic amenities , Eco
tourism facilities and institutional developments
• Rehabilitation of river bed / bund encroachers by providing permanent housing
6. VGTM UDA intends to develop the above project components under PPP mode / BOT
basis, and to facilitate prospective developers to respond, to have a detailed project
Report through reputed Consultant Agencies who have expressed their interest through
EOI called by the Authority. (Hereinafter referred to as the Project). |

CBN is seeking a feasibility report…
A delegation consisting of Chinese railway group Zhou Fang Yuan and Serge Devieux, Director, South Asia, International Finance Corporation of World Bank Group called on CBN yesterday.
CBN asked the delegation to prepare a feasibility report for bullet train between Visakhapatnam and Chennai within two months.
The delegation gave an assurance that they would study the options and begin making the report from next month.
