Hyderabad: The intensifying agitations in Seemandhra region are making Congress leaders jittery. They are now open to join the Opposition Telugu Desam party. But this is not going to happen immediately. Several Congress leaders belonging to north coastal Andhra and the two Godavari districts are planning to shift loyatlies by December, if the Congress-led Government at the Centre.
Reports say that one pro-active Minister from north coastal Andhra, who is giving direct and indirect support to the Samaikyandhra movement, is spear 0heading the defection efforts. Since they belong to the ruling party, they have decided to move in a cautious manner in this regard.
These leaders strongly believe that if the Centre proceeds with its efforts on bifurcation decision, Congress will face a rout in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. They fear that such political fall of Congress will not be confined to the 2014 General and Assembly elections, but the negative impact will be there for the next few decades, just as it happened in Uttar Pradesh.
Some Congress leaders of other coastal districts and Rayalaseema have the same plan of defecting to the TDP. Theseleaders believe that chances of getting a ticket and winning the seat will be brighter if they opt for TDP.
However, all this will depend upon factors like - the aggressiveness showed by the Centre in taking forward the bifurcation process, the intensity of Samaikyandhra agitation, and chances of an alliance between TDP and BJP in the near future.
The north coastal Andhra Minister believe that some ten to twenty Congress MLAs and senior leaders will defect to the TDP.
