AUSTRALIA's first hot rocks energy pilot plant is generating power at Innamincka in the state's north.
Geothermal systems explorer Geodynamics has successfully commissioned its 1 mega watt electrical Habanero pilot plant.
A demonstration trial and testing program is scheduled to run for approximately 100 days with completion in August 2013.
Managing director Geoff Ward described the event as a "major milestone".
"The commencement of trial is the culmination of many years of hard work and the application of rigorous engineering and field operations."
The power generated by the plant will be used for Geodynamics' onsite facilities.
