he excitement to get clicked on a trip to the hills of Himachal cost 24 engineering students their lives while those who survived and watched their friends being washed away in horror will have lasting scars of the tragedy.
As blame game started on the cause of the tragedy, villagers raised fingers at the timing the authorities chose to release the water. They said days are longer in summers and there are numerious activities underway on the riverbank at the time when water was released.
“If the authorities had to release the water they could have done it after 9PM. It was the timing also that caused the tragedy,” said Brij Lal, a local.
The villagers also allege a nexus between project authorities-local administration and sand mafia in the area. A local, on condition of anonymity, said that sand mafia becomes active in the region in the evening.
“The authorities often release the water in the evening to flush out the silt deposited in the reservoir. The project authorities release the water at the time convenient for the sand mafia to extract sand illegally,” said the villager.
“The local administration also doesn’t act against the illegal mining. Even the railing on the roadside have been stolen or damaged by sand mafia who has laid small roads to the riverbank from national highway,” he added. |

Associate Professor Kiran Chakravarthula, who was accompanying the college tour, reiterated that there was no siren at the time, there was no fencing, no boards, and the locals did not give a clear warning.
He breaks down as he tells me that he was explaining to one student the composition of a rock when suddenly his feet felt wet and he realised the water level was rising. He saw his students get washed away while he and another student swam to safety and were rescued on the other side.

Kubang:one - When someone is leading the group (assuming lecturers/profs); they should know every thing specifically safety related before you risk kids lives. ikkada oka site ki evadinanna pampali ante whole day safety orientation istham. even after that in certain areas we don't let people to go on their own, always someone who knows the area will accompany the visitors all the time. Looks like no one knows what they are doing at the site.
actual ga ee engineering lo kulimanali and goa ivvanni industrial tours ani students ee plan chesukuntaaru ..motham anni vaale maatladuthaaru ....college edho maata varasaki oka gottam gaadini ichi pamputhadhi ....

couple of things to consider:
one - When someone is leading the group (assuming lecturers/profs); they should know every thing specifically safety related before you risk kids lives. ikkada oka site ki evadinanna pampali ante whole day safety orientation istham. even after that in certain areas we don't let people to go on their own, always someone who knows the area will accompany the visitors all the time. Looks like no one knows what they are doing at the site.
two - no warning signal from the damn dam before releasing the water

Yes atanee andi. he is one of the faculty members he spoke in a couple of channels yesterday. he was very distraught. He relocated to India a couple of years back and is working as an ASSt. Prof in VNR and is active in Lok Satta.

Two states Telangana and AP shook with shock hearing about the VNR college bus inundated in Beas River, Himachal Pradesh. Some of the engineering students were flooded in the river as the gates of the dam were opened without any prior caution or warning.
Much to the shock of film media, the faculty member Kiran who spoke to media last night about the incident, who miraculously escaped from the mishap is none other than Nallan Chakravarthula Kiran, who is better known as Na Cha Ki among film journalists. He was a critic worked for quite a long time and eventually turned into a film lyricist and penned for films like Adavi Sesh's 'Kiss'. He is also a volunteer for Lok Satta Party.
The film media fraternity express their relief knowing that Na Cha Ki is safe but lament for the lost lives of the students. The accident has happened near the locales of Allu Arjun's films like Desamuduru, etc!

NB Sodara: Speculation at the moment. I have not seen any official declaration as to what happened.Keep in mind that they are currently "washed away" as reported and I have not seen a statement that they have been "killed" either as some are speculating again.
