3hrs compared to regular phone in standby mode is very less antanna, somephones get even less like 2 hrs.

I meant to say mobile tethering only. Technically, mobile wi-fi is the 2nd case, checking on phone browser. Leaving the screen on consumes more battery than tethering. Tethering wi-fi, I usually get 3 hours or more, browsing with screen on takes around 1 percent of battery a minute |

Mobile phones lo wi-fi kaadu, thats fine
I am talking about using your mobile phone as tethering device or hotspot so that other devices can connect to your mobile phone which at that time is used as wifi-network to connect.
If you use your mobile phone as tethering device, then the battery is consumed to tether.. This will be pretty fast. You need to keep it for charging as long as you use it as tethering.

you can also use your mobile as hotspot to connect to other devices, but battery will drain pretty fast.

There are many MIFI plans that charge 25-30$ per month for 2-3GB data.
You can use it for a month or renew it at any time..
