Mr. Chauvin faces up to 40 years in prison for second-degree unintentional murder, the most serious charge.
Because Mr. Chauvin has no prior felonies, state sentencing guidelines recommend a range of around 11 to 15 years for his crimes, but prosecutors said they would seek a harsher sentence.
Three other former officers, charged with aiding and abetting Mr. Chauvin, will face trial in August.

The maximum sentence for second-degree unintentional murder is up to 40 years in prison. The maximum sentence for third-degree murder is up to 25 years in prison, and the maximum sentence for second-degree manslaughter is up to 10 years and/or $20,000. |
