two things I really can't do is short term options. There is no way for me to gauge the movement. Generally I buy 3 months out options as a minimum and also tend to buy in-the-money ones. I wanted to go in big when it was $9 (in CAD) and missed it within 25 cents and now it's $12.5; it's all happened in the last couple of months and it would have been the trade of the year for me.
