1) yes, you should filter
2) You should use any MA, that suits your needs, weekly trade chese vadiki 5MA 10MA on daily etc.

Volume is used as a proxy for liquidity, so its always used as filter to avoid illiquid stocks. Particularly important if ur position is large..
