at a very high level, with very few exceptions, coal is done ba. you will not see many coal fired plants in future. Even India announced that they are not going to build new coal fired plants. Solar became so cheap now it can compete with lot of fuels without subsidies. because of intermittent nature, you can't rely on it solely. that's why energy storage is where the next revolution going to be, once we figure that out i.e., tipping point in cost and step change in technology; then oil and gas will be used only for petrochemicals.
