Normally,small farmers used to go to grow vegetables.when I was a kid,they used cut all the vegetables before they apply any pesticides and wait at least a week time to cut the veggies to sell in the market.but that is not the case anymore. They apply pesticides today and cut them tomorrow to sell in the market.
