My first day in the US set a triumphant precedent for me to emulate through the tour. Even though battered and bruised post-bifurcation, AP possesses unmistakable value which if communicated properly could create buzz and inspire confidence in investors. I woke up early and got my “elevator pitch” ready for the big day ahead, hoping to generate some breakthroughs. I was telling myself: “today is another opportunity to make a real difference for the people of AP. I have to be the best I can be.”
I hit the road early morning to meet US Department of Commerce Assistant Secretary Mr. Arun Kumar, a top ranking Government official belonging to the Indian diaspora. It was a very interactive meeting where we spoke at length on how to successfully create ‪#‎SmartAP‬ through the Smart City projects, more so in the context of Vizag which will be developed into a Smart City with the US as the lead partner. I explained the immense potential our State presented as an investment destination and requested his support in making ‪#‎AP‬ a manufacturing hub. He responded very positively and assured me of extending his cooperation.
I met Dr. Rao Mulpuri, CEO of View that manufactures Dynamic Glass. After making a pitch for #AP as a manufacturing destination, I requested Dr. Rao to consider setting up a production facility in ‪#‎AndhraPradesh‬, an idea he is actively considering.
My next stop was at the office of Mr. Randhir Thakur, Executive Vice President at Applied Materials, Inc. a global leader in precision materials engineering solutions for the semiconductor, flat panel display and solar photovoltaic (PV) industries. Mr. Thakur expressed his commitment to play a part in realizing the vision of ‪#‎APCM‬ and assured us of his full support and intention to set up industry in #AP.
I later met Mr. Krishna Yarlagadda President of Imagination whose broad range of silicon IP (intellectual property) includes processors that power all mobile, consumer, automotive, enterprise, infrastructure and embedded electronics. Mr. Yarlagadda assured us that his Company will evaluate the idea of setting up a development Centre in Visakhapatnam.
BluePointe Capital Management hosted a well-attended event at the Prysm Campus, Milpitas. We made a really confident presentation to 90 niche investors from IT, ITES & Electronics Manufacturing who were very impressed with what #AP had to offer. At the same event, I got the opportunity to meet executives from eBay, Patni Financials, mobile force and others. All of them will soon begin prospecting the sectors to invest in #AP. They've also expressed support to the incubation Center by way of funds and mentorship.
15 hours, 6 meetings and several productive conversations later, I felt the day was fruitful and worth the time spent. I am raring to go again tomorrow. I hope the trend continues…For #SmartAP, ‪#‎LetsBuildAP‬ together
