Kumbhakarna was a devotee of Lord Brahma ( God of Creation ) and asked for a boon.



Evils ki not that Kumbhakarna is that bad, but he would get manipulated by Ravana, so he shouldnt get what he asks for. So he was manipulated by Saraswati on request of Indra.

Imagine if he got what he wanted and Ravana being aside of him? How evil that would be?
