Friday World Market Updates:

World markets under pressure ahead of US jobs data

1. The global equity markets remain under pressure heading into the close of the week. Rising rates continue to be the theme with the US 10 year above 1.55%. S&P Futures are down about five points to trade around the 3761 area. The range was just under 40 points with a high of 3771.00 and a low of 3731.25.

2. In Asia, the major markets saw modest declines.
3. In China, the Shanghai was unable to make any headway after the state set what is perceived to be a moderate GDP forecast at "over 6%."

4. This coupled with suggestions of an overhaul of Hong Kong's electoral system held equity markets at bay.

5. Japan closed lower for the second consecutive day. Semiconductors continued to outpace the Nikkei's decline with losses of around 2% for Advantest and Tokyo Electron.

6. In Europe, the major bourses are all under water. The FTSE is outperforming its peers, however. This is being spurred by strength in the Energy sector. Heavyweights such as BP and Shell are up well over 2% with crude oil futures over the $65 area.
