I know that they used to use this technique to know the time of eclipse as they cant see the sun and decide.

But not sure how true it is. Scientifically it was not explained whether there will be any additional force that makes something stand during eclipse and fall after eclipse is complete.

There might be something to what they used in olden days which we are missing and it appears comedy now.
