rao garu, basic ga it comes down to this:

Pros of top rated schools:
1) better cohorts
2) slightly better name recognition
3) more job offers?
4) away from home (for the kid)
5) getting into Ivy league schools may be little easier? (nor sure, hence the ? mark)
cons:
1) super expensive
2) starting pay may not be high enough to justify the cost
3) away from home (for the parents)

however, if the $400k (between two kids) is not a life changing amount for you in future, then go for it. if not, think twice and hard about it. I don't suggest to load the kids up with student loans. In my opinion, its up to us (parents) to make sure they come out of school with no debt. is it not what our parents did?
