"Woman from Karnataka gang-raped in Kurnool"

KURNOOL: A young woman was allegedly raped by an autorickshaw driver and three of his associates on Kurnool's outskirts late on Wednesday night. A police patrol that noticed the woman lying in a semi-conscious state rushed her to the Kurnool government hospital.

According to police, the woman, a native of Kolar, had come to Kurnool to admit her cousin to a local nursing college. After leaving her cousin at the college, the woman reportedly boarded an autorickshaw to reach the railway station. Police suspect she was drugged before being sexually assaulted.

A case has been registered based on a complaint lodged by the woman's cousin.

Kurnool police told TOI they would be able to say exactly what happened to the victim only after she comes out of shock and speaks to them.

"She is still in a daze. We are investigating whether she was drugged and, if so, what type of drug was given to her. Our patrol found her at around 11.30pm on Wednesday. Her cousin told us she had left the college at around 8.30pm," the local DSP said.

Police said the woman's condition is stable. It is learnt that the autorickshaw driver took her to the city's outskirts instead of taking her to the railway station. He allegedly called three of his associates and they assaulted her sexually. No arrest has been made so far.
