Discrimination In Power Cuts, A HR Violation! Published Date : 03-Mar-2013 22:00:00 GMT

The Kiran Kumar Reddy government’s decision to impose power cuts for differential durations in city, towns and villages has come under sharp criticism from the opposition parties.

The Telugu Desam Party has decided to file a petition before the state human rights commission questioning the propriety of the government in imposing power cuts for differential durations across the state.

“Why should there be only two-hour power cuts in Hyderabad, while the rural areas are facing 12- hour power cuts and towns are facing six hour power cuts? Why should be there be discrimination between the people of Hyderabad and that of rural areas? It is nothing but blatant violation of human rights in the rural areas. We are moving the human rights commission on Monday to question this discrimination,” TDP leader Payyavula Kesav said.

YSR Congress party honorary president Y S Vijayalakshmi, who participated in a dharna at Sattenapalli against power crisis, blamed it on the lack of foresight on the part of the Kiran government for the present situation.

“This is an unprecedented crisis. The farmers are suffering from severe power shortage. The rulers should go to the villages to know the actual situation,” she said.
