For federal financial aid, funds saved in 529 plans are generally considered to be parental assets, which means that only about six percent of these assets are currently counted towards the family's expected contribution in federal need-based financial aid calculations. though they say that 529 has no impact on funding, but colleges when they give admission they do look at the college saving you have...so one of my friend recommended you put less money on 529 and try to clear off your other debts like mortgage etc..this will give you a better chance of getting good scholarships |
