The law of karma which defines about these tripuTi ( three ) has been there for ever. However Bhagavadgeeta ( karma yoga ) explains in detail about these. We cannot go to the starting point of any action in the universe itself, as GOD is not a doer and doesnt have the effect of Karma. Vedas and Upanishads give the details but Gita has made it so clear. Humans constantly live in the cause effect cycle from various births and to future births.
