By the way - NFS read processes typically have lower priority. So, other processes that are running locally take precedence. So, try to increase the priority to NFS reads if you are so interested, which would significantly increase the performance.

Ledu. I am not a sysadmin by profession.

I was a victim of having a bad sysadmin support and had to dig thru all these issues to figure out the problem we had at one time.

FYI - we were able to get better performance by tuning each of the areas I asked questions about.

I will try to reach my sysadmin (he is on vacation and dont know when I cat get a hold of him) and let you know if you are still looking for an answer at that time.

Good Luck.

Kirikiri:

Linux ante info chaaladu. Specific details would work.

What specific distro? what version?
example answer: Redhad EL Linux 6.1 64 bit

Other info: What disk is NFS mounted?
Is it SAN or some other disk storage?
How are the drivers? (Some time you have driver issues)
How is it being used? (just as a storage device or for third party apps like Oracle?) If it is Oracle, it will be significantly low.

How is the disk storage? How many disks? what speed?

How is the storage connected? Fiber or SCSI or IDE?

How is the raid setup? (if there is any?)

How is the back plane? native on motherboard or how much speed it supports?

We had several variations of setup and had different issues. Depending on the usage... the performance varies.

mothaniki neeku edo kontha telisinattu undi mayya...sare sebutaa inukoo..

1. centos linux version 5
2. ram disk is nfs mounted which was created on an NFS server VM. 2 VMs created...one an NFS server and othen an NFS client.

4. drives are healthy ;)
5. simple storage purpose for linux distribution..no db involved
6. single core
7. SCSI based
8. yes raid setup SAN na, config need to find
9. back plane speed no idea but its noway related to my question
