SOLO – A refreshing, feel good complete Family Entertainer
The changing trends and demands of the day have almost abolished nuclear families with moving away to far-away places chasing dreams that in their mind are superior to their existing lifestyle but the heart tending to differ and longing for closeness and interactive with the immediate and extended families.
Nara Rohit –star and enlivens the role of Gautham – an orphan that has been battered with loneliness and lack of a support system and yearns to get married into a large family and enjoy the warmth of unconditional love. He meets Vyshnavi from a nuclear family headed by her possessive father – Prakash Raj. She just arrives into the city to go to medical school and they fall in love. Prakash Raj, overwhelmed by guilt for supporting his sisters marriage to her lover that lead her to be lonely without support in a dysfunctional relationship is not convinced and arranges for Vyshnavi to be married to a NRI from London and gets Rohit to sacrifice his love in the best interest of his daughter.
The father of the groom insists that Gautham be invited to the marriage so that he can ensure that he will not try to cause unrest in her later after marriage. Gautham arrives with a belief that he will be able to convince Prakash Raj and his family with his sincerity but is largely unsuccessful. He declines the request of Vyshnavi to run-away and tries to protect her interests and self-respect from the wayward behavior of the friends of the groom’s family. In the scenes that ensue Rohit decides to leave and meets with Prakash Raj to let him know that know that he has been viewing at the situation from the eyes of the bride’s father as was requested and was hoping that Prakash Raj would do the same for a couple of minutes and he was unsuccessful despite his best efforts. Prakash Raj discusses the situation with his sister and the groom’s father and has a change of heart.
The director and the hero should be commended for choosing a unique storyline and delivering the goods. The production values by SVK Cinema are very rich and vivid. The concept of convincing the audience that a “Ummadi Kutumbam” and the positive effects it has on it constituents can also be available and realized through the unconditional of a single person is very novel and presented very well through the emotional conflict between the characters of Rohit and Prakash Raj. Rohit convincing Prakash Raj in a passive aggressive manner and asking him to empathize with his belief system and the heroine accommodating both her father and love before surrendering to her heart and wanting to elope and being denied by an unyielding Rohit provides the backdrop for the all happy climax which shows the conviction of Rohit making a believer out of a highly opinionated Prakash Raj.
Rohit is absolutely convincing as Gautham – a motivated orphan determined to enjoy the warmth of an extended family. The diction is an absolute assets and his baritone voice increase the effectiveness of the delivery in the scenes involving pathos. He has used various dialects to his advantage and exhibited a very good sense of timing in comedy scenes. He was able to convince the viewers to relate to the character and his intense feelings towards family relations. He is very good in scenes with Nisha Agarwal and they share a good chemistry on the screen. His performance with his scenes involving a great actor like Prakash Raj is really commendable as there is an ease in histrionics and a confident strength in the verbal dialogue. His movement in dances was fluid and he was expressive and impressive in the single fight in the movie. Srinivas Reddy as his friend gives a very effective performance. He has grown in a more mature actor and has once again stuck to his decision to work in sensible films with a good message. I hope that he is careful and continues to grow and establish himself as a very viable actor.
The dialogues deserve a special mention the Director/writer Parasuram has written them with a passion and Rohit delivered them with panache. The screenplay is tight and the comedy is in line with the story. The music by Mani Sharma is good and Nisha Agarwal gave a good and graceful performance. The story is clean family entertainer and is strongly recommended for people of all ages. The sincerity in the acting of Rohit and the novel point in the story accompanied by good comedy make this a feel-good movie that will definitely entertain. Go see it today.
