fun facts about england's number 1 ranking:
1) england lost to 3 series in a row since 2008 against SA, india and windies to drop down ratings before their winning streak started.
2) in their ascent to number 1 ranking, england only beat aus and bangla away from home. rest of their so called magnificient run came at home.
3) england is being hailed as a team that could hold onto this position better than india and much longer. however, if SA wins their next 2 series with good margin - both at home, both this year one against AUS and one against SL(who never won a test in SA), SA will become the number team by the end of this year.
4) say all this doesnt happen and SA still cannot be the number 1 team, the next test series scheduled for england is in SL in march next year and going by how strong england is in the sub continent, if they lose the series, their point drop would be pretty steep.
so will be interesting to see if they can still hold on to their number 1 ranking by this time next year.
