US will let Chinese etc to produce them for cheap as long as they can and also so long they fund them to buy those goods .US and West are the pioneers in mass industrial production from age's untill early 80's.They can always manufacture if they are pushed to it .
Coming to Food , Americans are NO1 in agriculture they export grains , seeds fruits , meat etc on surplus .They have cheap labour (makkus)in galore.Worst case they can do the same for blue collar jobs .Currently they are all shifted to China for the past 25 years , because there is no innovation in manufacturing. Chinese buy American technology , machines built in Germany and produce for the rest of the world.Where is the pollution ? China .. where are the cheap goods ? in clean and green Western countries. Who is paying for the layed off Blue collard workers in west ? their respective govts(via the bonds invested by chinese and Asian bakras).Where is the nice high technology coming from again ... the western countries (they are still clean and green)..

I am no economist but in my opinion of all the big countries that are doing well now, only Brazil might survive and do well in global meltdown.
USA is very vulnerable bcoz of debt and capitalism. But if US crashes so will most countries around the globe becoz they either supply to the US or import from the US. This import/export is just not commodities or goods but includes services, intelligence and aid.
China is heavily dependent on USA and is in a dangerous geographic location which could be volatile.
India may not be dependent on US for it's economy but it is in a precarious position w.r.t enemies all around and their nuclear arsenal. If India does too well, you don't need a US to instigate Pak to create trouble in India. Pak is already jealous of us and will definitely create issues for us maybe in partnership with China.
The rest of the Western countries too are not in any great shape to survive on their own as they too spend heavily on welfare programs and their citizens too spend a lot (if not on homes then on travel).
So I feel Brazil is placed well at this time and has a bright future amongst the developed/developing nations.

china will dearly pray that dollar will not lose it's value because even if they are paid after issuing new dollars...that money will be at a value much less than at what they have given it to the US of A...

Let's say China lent $2B today to US by purchasing the 10 yr duration Treasuries. During the next 10 years US will pay what ever interest agree up on, say 2% per annum for argument sake. Then after 10 years Chinese will redeem the 10year bond and receive the face value of the bond in USD, not Chinese Renminbi/Yuan. appudu aa USD ni Yuan loki convert sesukunte China ki oka 20% thakkuva money vasthadi.
Baiscally they rolling over the debt for next 10 years and so on. USD thaggithe bokka Chinese/Japanese (as long as they are buying debt) ki gaani US ki kaadu. if the music stops and Chinese and Japanese stops dancing, then it is a different story.
Last 10 years lo Chinese/Japanese lost ton of money with the USD depreciation. |

Best thing is continue with usd and find some quicker solution and go back to gold era may be, no standerd curency...each currency is exchangable with gold only for time being... |

My take thammudu .. China will not let USD to fall.
My Reasons:
(1) US is the biggest consumer of MIC (made in China) junk. If Yuan becomes the world currencuy - it drastically impacts the exports from China.
(2) They hold the largest % of US treasury bonds
(3) US Corporations had invested heavily in China
(4) For Yuan to become world currency - anni countries oppukovaali. Europe, NA, SA lo chala countries consider china as a threat to them
