Bad weather led to Faridabad crash: report
New Delhi: The preliminary report on the plane crash in Faridabad in which 10 people - seven on board the ill-fated aircraft and three on ground - were killed says that the engine of the P-12 turboprop aircraft was fine and it was the turbulent weather that led to the tragedy.
The investigation into the crash is being carried out independently and not by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
"The investigation will be done independently. The investigation will not be carried out by the DGCA. The Government will appoint a committee of inquiry. A working group will be set up to review existing safety norms," said Civil Aviation Secretary Nasim Zaidi.
The investigation into the tragedy is the first independent inquiry by India into an air crash. The investigation will try and find out what went wrong with the P-12 turboprop aircraft belonging to Delhi-based Air Chartered Services India Pvt Limited.
How did the crash happened:
8:00 pm: Meteorological Department....
monitors a bad weather condition over Bhatinda.
8:15 pm: The captain of P-12 turboprop aircraft informs Delhi Air Traffic Controller that he is taking off.
10:00 pm: Heavy gusty winds reach Delhi.
10:15 pm: Plane is at an altitude of 14,000 feet and is approaching Delhi IGI Airport. Air Traffic Controller asks pilot to maintain flight altitude at 11000 feet.
10:20 pm: Gust of wind coming towards Delhi from Bhatinda hits the plane
Sources: The gust of wind flipped the plane upside down as the goes up to 11,900 feet and then suddenly to 14,800 feet,
Sources: Pilot lost control and aircraft went on a downward spiral at around 10:45 pm
Plane crashes into Faridabad residential area, Parvatiya colony
The Pilatus PC-12 is a light aircraft with a total laden weight of 4500 kg-4700 kg
Sources: Most probable cause of crash would have been the bad weather hitting the aircraft
