When it comes to dealing with Gandhi and his principles,the results are not always strikingly encouraging.It is a tough job to preach Truth and Non-violence,something that is unappealing to current generation in a commercial format.Most of the time the directors find themselves entangled in regular mass masala movie cobweb pattern,or at times fail to understand what and how to picturize.Whatever the result might be,the motto behind making such attempt should be commended.Mahatma is one such attempt.

Krishnavamsi looses the tempo here and there and is put into the right track again and again by Paruchuri brothers.It is just because of them,you do not find the regular Krishnavamsi trademark of dominating loud noise in this movie.To provide a bit of entertainment for a serious theme,the director injects some amount of uncertainity to hero's character by making him try all the odd jobs, including a movie hero.Once he becomes villian's henchman,the movie proceeds in the right direction. Narration is slow in both the halves.After the commencement of 'kontamandi intiperu kadu ra gandhi',the movie picks up required pace and it continues till the climax.Climax is good.

Paruchuri brothers penned some good dialogues.Some of them are

Aadadanni chuste Amma anipinchali kaani Neeyamma ani kaadu.

Goppagoppolle partylu petti pantlu tadupukuntunnaru.

However they failed to show heroine as staunch admirer of Gandhi's principles till the second part of second half.Till that time the heroine is shown as a normal girl,trying out her law practice but fallen in love with a roadside rowdy.Kannada accent of Ahutiprasad was also not worked out well.

Srikanth carried his role with ease and elan.He's equally good in both the mass and emotional scenes.Jayaprakash reddy walks away with honors.Probably it is one of his best roles in the recent times.Uttej does justice to his role.Bhavana is adequate.Though Ramjagan dons various historical characters in this movie,he looks good only in gandhi's role.In other roles he looks like a comedy artist bearing the brunt of hero.

Three songs Kurra kurra(Satyam raju scam is shown as a guy boarding police jeep),Neelapuri pori and Kontamandi intiperu kadura gandhi are good.

On the whole,the movie is neither extra-ordinary nor bad.It is just Ok.
