Vijayawada to Host

VIJAYAWADA: The city, if everything goes well, will host an international film festival in October. The ‘1st International Film Festival in Vijayawada 2009’, scheduled to be held from October 4 to 9, is being hosted by the Vijayawada Film Society (VIFISO) on the occasion of its 37th anniversary and also coinciding with the golden jubilee of the Federation of Film Societies of India (FFSI).

VIFISO secretary and film festival director Jampa Krishna Kishore said that the FFSI had decided to take film festivals beyond metro cities and permanent venues like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Tiruvanathapuram.

The FFSI decided to host film festivals in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu as part of this expansion. There were plans to screen about 25 to 30 foreign films during the six days of the festival.

Mr. Krishna Kishore said that an office of the VIFISO and the film festival would be opened in Gandhinagar. New life time members and patrons would be admitted into the society. The State government’s cooperation, besides the active helping hand of the district administration, industry, film distributors, exhibitors and all film lovers, would be sought for the successful hosting of the festival.

Film personalities like Ram Gopal Varma, Gunasekhar, Yandamuri Veerendranath, Rajendra Prasad, Tanikella Bharani, Murali Mohan, Ashok Kumar and several TV actors and technicians were expected to participate.
Sub-committees

Mr. Krishna Kishore said various sub-committees, such as advisory sub-committee, souvenir sub-committee, festival information & brochure sub-committee, hospitality sub-committee, transport sub-committee, functions sub-committee and media sub-committee have been formed. He appealed to corporate groups and others in the industry to come forward to sponsor and co-sponsor the event.
