this year is vey bad year for people back at home .

HYDERABAD: Even as the city's denizens are reeling under a power shortage, in a strange combination of disparate factors, the city was hit by severe diesel shortage on Tuesday.
Several petrol bunks of Bharat Petroleum ran out of diesel stock in the morning. As motorists had to go round the city to fill diesel, even petrol bunks of Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum put up no stock boards at some places as they too ran out of stock.
In fact, the oil companies reportedly began the reduction in the supplies -- read rationing -- from July 1 and diesel shortage started three days ago in the city but it was not alarming. Oil companies were also not supplying petrol and diesel stocks as per the indent and demand of dealers.
"The companies are cutting 20 per cent on the indent made by the dealers. That is also one of the reasons for shortage of both diesel and petrol," Greater Hyderabad Petrol Diesel Dealers Association general secretary T C Goel told TOI.
The situation got complicated due to increased power cuts in the city and many began operating diesel gensets for longer hours. As a result, consumption of diesel shot up in the last three days causing panic among the people who are queuing up for diesel to run generators.
But officials say the problem started at the Bharat Petroleum tank at Cherlapally where Euro III diesel from railway tank wagons could not be unloaded. The tank wagons carry both Euro II and Euro III diesel to the Cherlapally tank and as a procedure have to be unloaded together from the tank wagons.
However, as the Euro II tanks were full, the Euro III diesel too could not be unloaded in the morning. Officials hope this will be completed by late evening of Tuesday.
As per rules, the oil companies have to supply Euro III HSD diesel in the city which has less Sulphur content than Euro II diesel. Euro II diesel is supplied to other parts of the state.
"Since there is no diesel in the Bharat Petroleum bunks since morning, there was a burden on IOC and HP petrol bunks also. At some places, they too ran out of stock," a senior official said.
Officials, however, denied any short supply in petrol. "There is no problem for petrol supply in the city. At one or two places there could be a problem if incidentally the stocks got exhausted but not due to short supplies," district supply officer A A Aleem said.
