I want to suggest that we do a fixed deposit on the kids name...Other ideas are great, but people will have pride to ask for help so they might not ask. Please give a thought as athamabhimanam addu ravachu to ask for help.
If we make a fixed deposit on the kid he will realise and learn a lot of things when he is 18+ about friendship and charity and how much his father was loved by his mates.

this is what I feel:
If their financial position is comfortable then:
let us collect some fund (doesn't need to be big) and request his wife to donate to the charity of their choice on the name of Subhash.
May be they can pick a anadasramam, blind school,temple, old age home or whatever of their choice. Or educating a poor chaild.... in the fond memory of Subhash....
