Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy has once again ignored former Chief Minister and doyen of Telugu films N T Rama Rao this year, too.

For the third consecutive year, the State government has failed to announce the prestigious NTR Memorial Award, which was introduced by the then Telugu Desam government on the lines of Dada Saheb Phalke Award. Prominent artistes like Bhanumathi Ramakrishna, Dilip Kumar and Hrishikesh Mukherjee got the award in the past. After 2003, the award was not given to anyone.

Last year, when Telugu Desam raised a hue and cry over the issue, the Rajasekhar Reddy government announced that it would be given from November 1 this year. But, so far no awards were announced. Reason: there is no money with the department – it has to give awards for three years. The award carries Rs 5 lakh, citation and shawl. So, NTR goes back into history again!
