PCC president K Kesava Rao’s attempt to hog the limelight by raking up Pothireddypadu project issue appears to have boomeranged on him. He tried to prove that he is supreme in the party and even Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy has to give cognizance to his views as the party chief, but the Chief Minister turned the tables on him. The PCC president shouted at Minister for Major Irrigation Ponnala Lakshmaiah for ignoring the Telangana sentiments on Pothireddypadu issue and demanded changes in the GO 170. The minister had to meet him twice to clarify the doubts and agreed to make the required changes in the GO. Kesava Rao thought he had achieved a moral victory over the Chief Minister, but the latter shot down the proposal immediately and said: “nothing doing; there would be no change in the GO.” The PCC president had nothing do but to silently bear the humiliation.
Gandhi Bhavan sources say Kesava Rao also tried to complain to Sonia Gandhi that Pothireddypadu would do a lot of harm to irrigation interests Telangana areas like Ranga Reddy, Sanga Reddy, Kamareddy etc. But as is his wont, he confused himself and also the madam with his English rhetoric. Sonia Gandhi didn’t properly understand what he was saying. “Who are Pothireddy, Ranga Reddy, Sanga Reddy and Kamareddy? Are they trying to dislodge Rajasekhar Reddy? No Pothireddy; only Rajasekhar Reddy will continue,” she shouted at him. It was Ponnala who had to clarify everything to Sonia, when he went to Delhi later. |
