Has the Congress high command dumped the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and its demand for separate Telangana? It appears so, if one were to go by the stepping of campaign by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy against separate Telangana. His statement in New Delhi on Wednesday that the demand for separate Telangana State is on the wane, as his government has taken several measures to develop Telangana on the irrigation and agriculture fronts.
Political observers say the YSR's remarks had full backing of the Congress high command. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had endoresed the State government's action agaisnt Maoists, while Union Water Resources Minister Priyaranjan Das Munshi has announced that YSR's plea for Rs 25,000 crore package to develop Telangana has been referred to the Planning Commission. Immediately after his return, the Chief Minister called for an official meeting to discuss the immediate implementation of GO 610. All these steps are definitely aimed at creating the impression among the people that the Congress government is sincere for developing the region and that there is no need for a separate State.
Adding to this, sources say there was not much response from Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh to the delegation led by KCR in New Delhi on Thursday. So, what is KCR upto now |
