i already told you about the 136 that sachin hit under extremely painful conditions against pakistan in TESTS...and i also told you that the next highest score was only a 48 by dravid...are you telling me that its not a great innings...
anyway it seems to me what has really impressed you is the HIGH score by Lara that is 196...and you have immediately taken this to be his superiority...in my opinion the greatest innings by any batsmen perhaps in the history of test cricket has to be Laxman's 281 against Australia which came under incredibly difficult conditions...have you ever seen lara hit a score above 250 under extremely trying conditions like laxman did...so would you claim that laxman is a far better and classy batsman that lara or sachin, dravid, or ponting, gilchrist etc...
as far as saving matches is concerned i already gave my opinion sachin and his first innings centuries...
anyway it is clear to me that we both have our opinions of sachin which cannot be changed so let us just leave it at that... |

well i started watching cricket when we bought tv at home(1987)  and well thats close to 2 decades.

well, cricket is followed by most people in india. I still believe sachin is committed, but his commitment comes from fans who think he is god and no one can be better than him.
for gods sake he is human and he has weeknesses(for one he cannot play in tense situations as good as he is when he is not in one).
secondly he is great player(well nobody needs to certify him) but, if you see top innings played by an indian(not around the world) i can show atleast more 5 by current players in indian team other than sachin. thats the difference.
btw boom, i watched that match.. lara took westindies from 105/5 to win the match(to chase 311). he scored some 160 in that match. |

Dude show me one match like the one LARA played against AUSTRALIA with just 1 wicket remaining .. & with WALSH at the other end.. who doesn't even know how to stand erect in crciketing postion; Facing the great Australian attack like McGrath, Gillespie etc..
I don't remember exactly.. but he scored somethimg more than 140+ or.. I don't remember coz I haven't seen that ..just followed score online.. & he's won the match for WI that day!!

Actually i was in your situation a year ago arguing with people who talk bad about sachin. Later i realized that most of the people whom i argued with never followed cricket for long time or dont have much cricketing knowledge. Now i can't do anything but just pity them who downplay or dont recognize SACHIN's contributions to INDIA.
Here in this thread i am just talking about LARA. One should appreciate a person when he does it well right. Its nothing to do with SACHIN. Thats what i have done. Inka sollu antava, thread lo postlu ekkuva padali ani ala controversy chestuntadu. |

Lax mama let me first say to you and Sollu that i am not even a sachin fan...i am a hardcore Dravid fan and i have always been a Dravid fan ever since he first entered the indian cricket team...however, i still respect sachin and think he has contributed immensely to indian cricket...i also think that in recent times it has become customary to talk cheaply of sachin and to downplay his accomplishments while lifting all other batsmen onto pedestals...i think sachin has been treated very poorly in recent times by media and by indians in general...anyway i have said what i feel on the subject...if it was not appropriate to bring it up in this thread then i apologize.. |

Those who followed cricket in 90's would not question SACHIN capabilities. Boom was telling only the qualities they have. See you unneccesarily brought SACHIN into this thread and gave chance to people like SOLLU & Eeidlagolayenti. We were discussing about LARA and there is no need to bring SACHIN into this. |

There are facts in your post. Added to that I have to say SACHIN has got Best Technique and Consistency among contemporary crickers. The major difference between these two greats is ATTITUDE towards the game.
No need to say that sachin career is affected one way or other during his prime time due to Match fixing.
Anyway i dont want to compare MASTER & GENIUS. Just want to enjoy their presense in the field. |

I'm not degrading SACHIN here.. I'm ardent of SACHIN.
But to tell you frankly ..
In terms of Talent & Skill LARA is way ahead of SACHIN.
Yes! SACHIn is a GREAT Player.. he's the finest batsmen India has produced so far.. & even one of the best batsmen in the world ..
Yet .. Sachin do lack that Killer Instinct & the confidence to take the whole grip over the game into his hand as LARA.. he can't play a Long Innings like LARA..
On the other end , LARA has got great talent .. but TALENT alone will not be good.. there are lot more things like sincerity, Passions etc.. in which he scores way lower than Sachin..

For SACHIN, cricket comes first .. whereas for LARA.. he just play's it cool..as it's just a matter of 200 or 300 soft balls for 3-4 hrs...

Or even like the one yesterday.. |

compare this to Lara. Its amazing how relaxed he could play and take it out on bowlers. Tendulkar doesnot do that.
we could say he is great etc. etc.. but he is just that great not greatest in every aspect. He is good in scoring runs but not makinig it on his own. |

what i see here is that whenever sachin hits a century immediately someone is attributing the credit to someone else...
everyone here is claiming that lara is so great because he hit 190 or some runs in 2 or 3 matches...but let me ask you then what about the remaining 100 matches that lara failed to make runs and west indies lost...
i agree that sachin doesnt have many big scores...but sachin has been playing consistently for the last 16 years ... not just 1 or 2 matches... dont forget that... another criticism that even though tendulkar's centuries have helped india win nearly 70% of the time...he hit those centuries only in the 1st innings...okay i agree...but let me ask you can you think of what would have happened to india's total if sachin hadnt hit those centuries in the first innings...how low would have our defending total been without sachin's centuries in the first innings...and how many matches would we have lost...i am a fan of dravid and in my opinion right now he is the best batsmen in the indian team...but dravid and ganguly (excluding this past year) have been playing well only for the last 4-5 years...before that when tendulkar failed the entire indian team would collapse for totals of 220 or 230...we all know this ... we have all seen this happen before...it was only when tendulkar played well that we were able to set totals like 270-280 and that india was able to win... then would you not consider that sachin was saving india in these matches...at the young age of 16 years itself sachin had to bear the burden of the entire indian batting on his shoulders....all i am saying is remember that period in indian cricket...
and after that all i can say is that...

They are great innings. but all those innings, he never played by him self. there is another partner who assisted him(by scoring fast runs, like viru 103 and azzu 103 etc.. releaved his pressure).
i remember that innings of 155 by sachin in SA he an azzu scored 200 runs in one session(from lunch to tea).. great one, but its azzu's daring ness which started the run flow.
look at today's match you would see the class. Viru played couple of such innings(like 195 in the test we lost in australia last year). never played by sachin. |

Lets accept the facts here. No one is degrading sachin here. Sachin always tops my list.
One should appreciate LARA for his class. Its not easy task to score back to back centuries which are close to 200, that too see the situation of their batting line up.
When it comes to Murdering opposition with bat, then LARA has committed most number of murders till now.
Down the lane after couple of decades we can proudly say that we saw batting of Sachin, Lara, Dravid... and bowling of Akram, McGrath..... |
