Some excerpts :
1)Even Shyamalan's last film The Village, which was savaged by most critics, earned $240 million worldwide in theaters. Ancillary revenues are estimated to be around $150 million.
2)The casting for Lady In The Water would start in a few weeks and the movie could be in theatres next summer. According to Warner, the film centers on the superintendent of an apartment building who finds a sea nymph swimming in the pool, setting in motion unexpected events.
I think this means that the casting was after Sideways - I am assuming. But Rediff is no "Bible" to movies. FYI:The movies is not listed in IMDB yet.

coming back to the movie...the major flaw was in its marketing. that they were living in 20th century could have been kept under wraps till the last 10 minutes.
other than that....it was a commendable effort. |

i guess me being republican doesnt help...hell I want india to blast the balls off pakistan at the slightest excuse we get...say like... the next time a paki even thinks of pissing over the LOC into our kashmir...

There is a section of people (inclding myself and maybe CHalam??) who happen to think that the "Walker" connection was a direct reference to George "Walker" Bush.
He is keeping the world in confusion by cashing in on their fears - fears that are everywhere, and have different solutions -
but as shown in the picture gaurding them and asking them not to think and asking them to be secluded in an ecnlosure (for e.g a parallel for the paranoia surrounding orange and red alerts against terrorism).
There is a lot more to it in detail - and we could talk about many scenes - an in particular Manoj's monlouge at the end of the movie. But this is the preliminary premise.

ring 2....hmmm....
as far as sequels go....it disappointed me...and i couldnt care less even if it was.
the problems with sequels is that the premise is already known before you enter the theater. No surprises there...samara is back to ruin blockbusters movie rental business with her personal video industry. So whats new...obviously one would expect a twist...and it is here that the director falls flat miserably. The whole video cassette bit was beaten to death in the first part and here we have the director wasting valuable screen time rehash the same old rut. I would expect to jump out of my seat atleast for a couple of scenes...the only time i found my self jumping out was at the credits. and finally the logic. there is no convincing thread which explains samaras fascination for naomi watts as her mother.
the kid needs to get some plastic surgery and bring some cheer to his face. whats with the deers...couldnt understand the connection.
i could keep rambling ...its a looser |

the village "peddalu" are disillusioned by modern day life due to their own personal calamities, blame everyone around them and share a common feeling that seclusion from the world as we know it is whats best for them and their families. Off they go and find a place surrounded by woods. Next task, how to keep em there... they create the myth of these creatures in the woods, the only boundary between the village and the rest of the world, to dissuade the the brave of heart from venturing into it...or out of the village. The spin a story about the creatures and its inexplicable attraction for the color "red" and how they dont mess with you unless you mess with them. Obviously its in mans nature to go after the "forbidden". Much like adam and even eating the fruit they werent supposed to and thats what finally happens.
personally i felt it was a stale affair and i was surprised it grossed as much as it did in the final run. |
