Q: What about NTR's new look?
A: It did good, lot more than bad, to him...though it threw him out of proportion body wise, but yet sparkle in his face is intact.
Q: What in the film took you by surprise?
A: Mamta's action...Keeravaani's Background score (paatalu naaku asalu nachhcaledu. okkatante okkati kuudaa, catchy tune ledu). Anand sai's art work. kaaki nalupu unna priyamani's photogenic face are of special mention.
Q: I heard, it's of around 3 hours screen time...is it sluggish at times?
A: Recent gaa nenu chuusinavi AMAV and Shivaji... pichchi D'nayyi paavu gantake...theatre lo...that too after being a Shankar's fan. I never felt boring anywhere for YD...may be because I am biased as a fan of Jr. I asked 5 other friends' family members(a total of 20 member friends's circle) who came with me and most of them said 30 minutes after the interval is dragging.
Q: Is the Genre palyed out well?
A: Yes, to some extent. The Genre at the heart of the story is 'Fairy tale romance', which is not readily apparent, unless you probe deeper int the story structure. The genre is misunderstood by all reviewers. The genre is conceived properly by the vijayendra prasad and co, but is not laid out properly, deliberately, I guess...not to make it a love story...rather not to make it look like a fairy tale romance. But it's the fairy tale romance plot that drives the story.
Q: Is the premise played out well?
A: 'True love conquers all' is the premise and there is a lot of departure from this premise and intentional importance is given to attractive elements like Jr vs Mohan Babu and according to Sergei Esisenstein in his 'Montage of attractions'...describes an attraction must be inserted, if it's possibly likeable by the audience, when ever you get a chance in the narrative. The irony is...love interest between Jr and priyamani is ignored.
Q: Is the story coherent enough?
A: Yes. Very well done. Each character is etched out well and locket in the form of narrative device 'set up and pay off' is done well.
Q: Can you tell me what's the new point, story wise, in YD?
A: At the heart of the plot is love story. Ammayi abbaayi kalusukuntaaru, okarni okaru ishtapadataaru. oka obstacle(manmade or natural) vallani vidadeestundi. aa obstacle ni adhigaminchadamo ledaa odipovadamo resolution avutundi. This is 3 act structure, since the time of Aristotle's 'Peoetics', since more than 2000 years ago. ee cinemaa lo yamudu, iddaru lovers ni, revenge kosam vidadeeyadam anedi vereity point. ee process lo yamudu, Jr ntr la madhya 'yama seat' kosam confrontation anedi add cheyyadam...masaala kosam...premise vadili saamu cheyadam jarigindi. That's what caused the dragging, as some have opined.
Q: What changes would you make, if you were to weild the megaphone?
A: I would follow the fairy tale structure, the manner in which the original story set out to be told. For this to be told...there has to be lot of love chemistry between ammayi and abbayi...which was completely lacking in the first place. If 2 people are not in love...where is the motivation for yama's character to separate them.
Yamudu iddaru lovers ni vidadeestante...manam feel avvadam ledu ante...daaniki kaaranam...the cause for the inciting incident is lacking. I would do just one change to the story...develop atleast 15 love scenes in this arc with comedy...
They hate each other at first...hatred turns to intimacy...blossoming into love. Right at that time he has to be killed and then Yama has to try to separate them.
Q: What's your bottom line?
A: If you are a fan or nuetral...watch it. If you are a hater...'Benhur' techchi chuupinchinaa, parama rotagaa undani anochchu...you are entitled to opine so.

Let me organize what I wanted to say, in to a Q & A format...with first things first.
Q: Did you watch the movie?
A: Yes.
Q: Is the theatre full?
A: entha curiosity raa baabu neeku! theatre full ayyindi... Saturday 4.30 IMC, Sanjose show ki.
Q: Are you cent percent nuetral?
A: No. I am a die hard fan of Jr. I am also a big time admirer of Sr NTR and Chiru.
Q: Are you a 'Naatu mariyu metta cinema prekshakudu' only?
A: Not exactly...I grew on french Nouvelle Vouge and european cinema and classic cinema of directors like David Lean...watched lot of Indian parallel cinema and 'naatu cinema' as well.
Off late, started liking Iranian directors such as Abbas Kiarostami and Mohsin Makhmalbaf. My all time favourites remain...Andrei Tarkovysky and Kryzstof Keislowski(famous for 'decalogue' and '3 colors'...Exemplary director)...closely followed by David Lean and Fracis Ford Cuppola.
From India, Budhdhadev Dasgupta followed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Sorry for the long answer.
Q: What's the hit range of the film?
A: I don't know for sure. I haven't yet talked to anyone in India. But, I guess, the film might end up as a block buster...bearing also in mind that there are no big releases shortly.
Q: Em maattadatannavuraa bhai! this film didn't receive rave reviews, to be a hit, leave alone becoming a block buster?
A: As I said, I don't yet know the BO verdict. Web Reviews don't make or break a film...word of mouth does. Do you know that 'Chandra Mukhi' got 2.75 and 'Soggadu', a solid 3.25 from Jeevi... and you know the popular verdict. A review is one person's opinion and it may be a polar opposite of popular liking. It applies to this FAQ as well.
Q: Are you sad that YD got not so great reviews?
A: Nuvvu mallee modatikostaaventi, who cares? Ore...ayyaa...Web Review laki, DB lo post laki sinta kaayalu raalavu.
Q: Is it a DVD movie or theatre film?
A: It's a spectacle in granduer. Exquisite visuals are feast to eyes. Definitely is a theatre film, unless you pledge, like Ravino...the guruji, not to watch NTR's movie in a theatre...that too for wrong reasons. Guruji, emee anukoku...alaa annaanani...I am an ardent lover of your(and Papi's) posts.
Q: Who do you want to appreciate first?
A: I appreciate the unsung heroes of the film first...Art director...Anand Sai's meticulous work, cinematographer...Senthil's first rate visuals and lighting schema and all members of Special FX team and also Adel Eddelli's work. Ofcourse, anta kharchu pettina cherry, Urmila and Rajamouli...nijangaa gunde dammu unnavallu.
Q: What about Rajamouli?
A: It's a typical rajamouli's film. cinemaa chuttesinattu undadu, padhdhatigaa teesinattu untadi. ee vishayam lo naaku Gunasekhar inkaa baagaa nachhcutaadu. Manchi production values to paatu akkadakkadaa naatu kottudu untadi...that's his style.
