hi,
I have table with name column.
Now I added one more column to that table. and want to insert the values in the name column into the new column. How do i do that one?
ex:
Initial table
SNO Name
1 C
2 C++
3 Java
4 VB
5 C#
6 VB.NET
7 PHP
Now I added one more new column say name2 and the values should be exactly same as Name and in the same order like below.
SNO Name Name2
1 C C
2 C++ C++
3 Java Java
4 VB VB
5 C# C#
6 VB.NET VB.NET
7 PHP PHP
I can write 7 SQL statement insert record into Name2 column. But in the actual scenerio I have like 1000+ records so i cant write that many SQL statements to insert the values in the new column. So is there any simple way to do this one?
I tried like
Insert into tablename (name2) values (select name from tablename)
But it didnt work. i guess i need to use cursor for this.
