Star producer and hero Dr. Mohan Babu has today urged his fans not to get emotional and resort to acts such burning effigies and other disgraceful means. In the backdrop of the fans of Dr. Mohan Babu and megastar Chiranjeevi resorting to effigy burning and other protest forms, his urgently convened press meet assumed significance.
Addressing a crowded press conference at his production house Sree Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures office on Thursday, Mohan Babu sharply reacted to certain uncalled-for things elsewhere in the state. He expressed anguish at the mudslinging against Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao by certain vested interests. Press Meet details in his own words:
1. It has come to my notice that my fans did disgrace to the images of Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan in Tirupati as a retaliation of disgrace to me and to my guru Dasari garu in Vijayawada by Chiranjeevi fans. I earnestly request the fans not to resort to any such acts. This is completely a matter related to us. If something happens, if any life is lost, there will remain tragedy to parents and family members. Please maintain calm and control.
2. There is no caste and particular place to artistes and film people. This is my open challenge. Let anyone declare his caste and let him do a film with cast and crew belonging to his caste only. Not even a single matinee would run. This is history and this is truth.
3. Politics is not necessary in cinema. Efforts to make a good film only will succeed. It is impossible to get success by making useless movies and try for publicity without effort.
4. I am once again asking the same question. Is this the way we have to celebrate the 75 years event of Telugu cinema? What wrong did I say? Is there any little effort to provide place to film workers, junior artistes and the general public? Is it my mistake or wrong to ask the reality and injustice?
5. Some useless people have used the names of Dr. Rama Naidu and Dr. Dasari as shields to their mistakes, whims and fancies. The great and historical event of 75 years of Telugu cinema was left in the lurch. Several workers and artistes who laid the real foundations were ignored. Like this, they (some committee members of the Telugu Cinema Vajrotsavams) turned the occasion into a big comedy show.
6. Chiranjeevi is a good friend of mine since thirty years. There is no any official responsibility attached to him in the celebrations. I had only found fault with the way some of the committee members had behaved. In no way, I intended anything against Chiranjeevi. Still, I am not able to understand why he lost his control and spoke so emotionally.
7. I am very much pained to say this. When there were reports of fans frenzy in Vijayawada, why Chiranjeevi remained silent. Is it correct to play with the emotions of the fans?
8. Chiranjeevi said there was no proper respect available to the Telugus in Goa, Mumbai and Delhi. Now, I am asking. What happened to several important people in film industry who stood in front of the stage? Why several people were not even given the invitation?
9. Only some people behind the scene are provoking and instigating Chiranjeevi. I only expressed my anguish. I never meant double meaning in my words. I never provoked anyone. My humble request to fans – Don’t get cheated by people who provoke.
10. Some vested interests did meaningless thing by naming awards after “legend” and “celebrity”. In fact, there is nowhere in this world, where living people are given legend status. Only in case of extraordinary persons such as Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela, they are called “living legends.” The organizers conducted the event without knowing the meanings.
11. One silly man (referring to KS Rama Rao, convener of the TCV) wants me to reach further heights to receive the award of “Legend”. That silly fellow wants me to wait till the 100th year celebrations of Telugu cinema. We don’t know whether we live or not. I acted in 510 movies, more than 100 as hero. Produced 47 movies. Got elected to Rajya Sabha unanimously. I am providing 25% free education to the poor students, irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Above all, the Government of India gave me the Padma Shri. After Rama Naidu and Ramoji Rao, I happen to be the biggest producer in Andhra Pradesh. But, that silly fellow wants to give me suggestions. I never care for such people.
12. I am asking that silly fellow. In what way he is connected with legend and my brother NTR? I have a history. I can tell my growth, where I was born and how I came up in life. Let him tell – where did he come from? What he used to do? With whom he did movies? I warn him no to use the name of NTR for his personal benefits and film politics. What business he has to give NTR Award? And who is he, after all?
13. I am hurt at the way how our chief minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy was invited and felicitated. Let us speak truth, no politics please. Major development for the Telugu film industry took place during the when the chief minister was late Marri Chenna Reddy. When (late) Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy was the Chief minister, a number of producers were benefited by getting house sites. YS Rajasekhar Reddy gave plots in Vizag for building studios. He urgently woke up to our request to stop video piracy. He is doing everything. Now, these people (some of the committee members) want to eat the government itself. I know YS Rajasekhar Reddy garu is an innocent man. Other than him none would accept the behavior of these people.
14. Senior minister and respectable man Rosaiah too was ignored and he was not given proper respect. How many people who were benefited really attended the function at Jubilee Hall? Let me know.
15. I am always for absolute freedom of press. I and my sons and my family members will never dictate terms to the journalists. I condemn any kind of pressure or block that is intended to cut down the freedom of press. I am ever ready to stand by my journalist-brothers.
16. (To a question) I swear by Baba (Shirdi Sai). I played a crucial role in convincing Dr. ANR garu and persuading him to attend the function.
17. I just request all my people of Andhra Pradesh. Just forget this Telugu Cinema Vajrostavams as “Peeda Kala” (Nightmare). Due to the nonsense of certain people, the industry has already become a laughing stock. Let us rededicate ourselves to win back the respect and confidence from the people. |
