After several U.S Corporate ACCOUNTING SCANDALS/FRAUDS..the Federal GOVT came with a WHIP calling SOX.
Since financial reporting is mostly done using ERP systems Like Sap, Oracle, Peoplesoft or DW , ETL Systems like Informatica,Datastage,Ab Initio with Business Objects, Cognos IT CONTROLS,AUDIT play a imporntant role.
The Consultants are defintely paid well, but if you have a Accounting/Legal BackGround it is easy to jump to that field, if not it is not easy to get a career break....
Example: Like in Peoplesoft Financials or SAP FICO or Oracle Apps, In GL,AP,AR postings you should not POST invoices into the CLOSED periods...But companies do not follow..So being a SOX consultant you need to go thru the business processes and identify what is wrong and fix it...
There is one guy called Jasvir Gil who started a company called VIRSA Systems(SOX Software) in the Bay Area and SAP acquired it for huge undisclosed amount. He is now a multi millionaire...His favorite quote is "I
will put CEO's out of JAIL"
