Opera is good for windows. for unix, linux, BSD & Debian users, I think firefox is a better browser.

I user Opera 8. Registered version.
I have tried to tell about it to folks. but most of them doesn't want change.
Opera is not compatible with some commonly visited sites. www.eenadu.net & other telugu sites doesn't work with opera.
All said & done, I prefer opera to any other browser. nothing beats it'speed. mouse gestures & keayboard gestures. For sites thta have issues with opera, i have a button in my browser that says "open with IE" which opens the page in IE.

October 3, 2004
Yoper Rocks

YOPER (Your Operating System) is one of the new Linux flavors. Unlike other new Linux
flavors, it got much recognition in very short period of time and becoming very popular
distribuition. The main idea behind YOPER is "Linux Refined". It takes some of the best
features from the famous linux distribuitions like Slackware, Suse, Knoppix and RedHat
and Mozilla from Netscape. The base system is built from scratch.

It is very fast: Fast installation (5 to 15 minutes of installtion based on your system),
system startup, programs... everything is fast. The
idea of YOPER, "Linux Refined", seems to be correct. One of the most daunting thing for
the Windows users is installing "Linux". I tried many linux flavors (RedHat, Suse,
Slackware, Debian, Mandrake) but most of them are time consuming and not easy. YOPER is
very simple. Just boot with the CD, agree to the terms of YOPER, make/select partitions,
install, install LILO... and you are done. It detects previously installled Windows (if
we install LILO in MBR) systems also.

Since it uses "Kudzu Hardware recognition" from RedHat, whatever hardware that is detected in RedHat will be detected with YOPER also.
Also, the other major issue with Linux distros is "XServer" configuration. While some of
the distros make it easy by configuring XF86Config by default, some distros make us to
manually edit this. For Linux beginners this might be very difficult procedure. YOPER
makes it very simple. When you first boot the system it will provide a screen to
configure the monitor, screen, resolution etc. If the configuration is wrong, then when
you boot again, you will have option to set it right. This is the most user friendly
factor for configuring XServer. This feature is based on SuSe's "SAX2" (but if SuSe's
default/adjusted XServer settings are wrong...you have to edit the settings manually).

The default system comes with "KDE" and the package selection is not available (to make
the life of beginners easy). The lack of package selection is the one downside of
installation while this feature is time saving and good for the novice users. But you can
update/install the new packages any time and it is very easy as
it uses Packagetools from Slackware (installpkg, removepkg) and "apt-get" (this feature
still needs to be improved).

Since the first public release of YOPER, I started a yahoo group
"yoper-os" to help YOPER users. At present William(thanks to William
for his active participation in keeping this group alive) and Me are
maintaing this group. In the beginning of the yoper-os yahoo group, every
one was able to join the group. But since the last month in order to keep this group free
from spammers, the users need to be approved by us before joining the group. In addition
to this, YOPER also started its own discussion board recently. You will find plenty of
resources in this discussion board including a detailed Installation Manual.

If you have not tried YOPER or thinking about trying Linux and have few GB's (good to have
at least 5 GB as it yoper installation is automatic and comprehensive) of hard drive, then
try YOPER. (Before installing...if you have windows installed then make sure to back up
important data from windows system). You will definitely like it. For more information
about YOPER, read official release http://www.yoper.com/about.html.

The difference is, I used opera for a year, and I am using netcaptor now.

And all my systems are always with low resources.

When you got high speed T1 line, with P4 proc 1GB xyzRAM etc. These things make no much clear difference.

>>>They are LIKE skins over IE. So the basic engine running below is IE.

Netcaptor is based on IE, but not OPERA. OPERA is written from the scratch and it is not based on the NCSA Mosaic code which makes it different from IE and Netscape. (teliyakapotey adugu maava.)

Now that you agreed Netcaptor is like a skin for IE, then its a shit-browser (IE is already got this label...so your skin should also get this label).

Being on a dialup modem, and with Celeron 192mb RAM machine, I made my decisions. Most of the softwares, I mentioned on that page are free(Cracked ones) and I had a direct link to cracklocation too. Before abondoning that site, I manually edited the links out.

Opera/Netcaptor are not actually browsers.

They are LIKE skins over IE. So the basic engine running below is IE. And thats what I read in one review.

Yep, I remember, Opera used to hang and crash alot when I goto Asian sites :-O

maava...yee spyware/adware/etc market antha famous browsers ni target chestaaru. okappudu IE was the leader...so everybody targeted IE. and now it's almost gone.

so...now with in an year, the malicious programmers will definitely target FireFox. Once it becomes as the target, later it will also become problematic like IE.

The other browsers which are not famous, will be somewhat secure... Saying this does not make IE cousins like Maxthon, Netcaptor etc...secure. They all suffer from the same problems like IE as they are based on IE.

In short, there is no perfect browser. We need to pick the one that is less targeted, relatively secure, and with good features.

just my thoughts...about browsers.

NetCaptor got all of Opera

The first thing which made to install Netcaptor and uninstall opera is the size of Browser Icons.

Opera got big big icons (One which we find at the top above Address box) like for Vision defect people taking up lot of space.

I dont remember the extra functions of opera, but Netcaptor provides 'Shortcut' Aliases for Urls.

g= google (g deithadi = opens google page with search results)
d= dictionary (d deithadi = opens dictionary)
Everything is configurable.

Opera Software claimed Thursday that the response to the release of its newest browser was so massive that it had to install new servers to handle the loads.

In the first 48 hours since its Tuesday release, Opera 8 was downloaded more than 600,000 times. By comparison, rival Firefox claimed 1,000,000 copies grabbed in the opening 24 hours after its 1.0 version went final in early November 2004.

"A lot of people had great difficulties downloading Opera 8 on Tuesday because the traffic on the servers was simply too high," said Carsten Fischer, a vice president with Opera Software, in a statement. "When download numbers reached 120 per second one hour after the release, our servers had serious problems dealing with all the requests. We had prepared for heavy traffic, but this exceeded our wildest dreams."

The Oslo-based browser builder has installed additional servers.

Opera 8 was released Tuesday in versions for Windows and Linux, and can be downloaded from the firm's Web site.
