Vamsea babai: I suggest you an Pentium - M with built in wireless with SXGA+ screen and min. 40 Gig 5400 RPM HDD (to avoid heat issues).
This gives an awesome experinace of multimedia and mobility of wireless connection with light weight of 5 pounds. So you can use at work and home without hassele. If you seriously search for a month you will get it for less than 1000 with above configuration. So I suggest you to wait.
Also this new centrino techonolgy is valid for at least 2 to 3 years from now on. |

Venu babai: It's new series Dothan processor and it consists of 2MB L2 cache... traditional processors used to come with 512KB... it is equalent to 3.04 Gig.
One more thing you should note with Pentium-M processor is: It runs on Speed step techonology, it runs depending on the power source(battery/AC) and the magnitude of applications/processes you are running, it will dynamically changes the clock speed to lower levels and saves power.
On a battery with for just browsing, this processor runs at 500Mhz clock speed. On AC it runs at 780 Mhz.
The only instance you see high clock speed running is: running oracle server and other VC++ large compile enivornments. Like build time for DLL is somewhere in the range of 20 to 45 mins. |

If you are just planning to browse internet and do some basic programming than a Laptop with 256MB, 40GB, Celeron is enough and can get it for around $600-800!!
If planning to do some high level applications using WSAD etc may be you require 512MB, Pentium 4, 40-60GB etc.
If planning very high level one which is thin and light cna even go for INTEL Processor M(Centrino) but have to spend much more!!
Go for one with 256MB, 40GB, AMD Athlon which you should get for low price!!

If you add a DVD burner it is going to cost around extra 200 bucks and it aint worth it. Unless you are a PC freak , I wouldn't recommend a laptop DVD burner.
It takes anywhere between 45min to 3 hours to burn a 2 hour english movie with 4x speed dvd burner.
Check out sears mama! I heard they had a laptop sale with 40 to 60% off.
