Mani Sharma's composition has been claiming a lot of expectations weeks before the audio to be released. The new outcome ‘Arjun’, starring Mahesh Babu, also maintained the same anticipation tempo since the day the news hit the media.
The cassette comprised six lyrics written by Veturi. Although the songs and their composition possess the values to leave a pleasant impact on the audience, certain tracks and their orchestration appear to be imitated. Mani Sharma himself is a pathfinder to the upcoming composers. But he himself took the path of A.R Rahman in composing the first song in the cassette, “Okka maata Okka baanam Okkateraa guri..”. Hence the originality of Mani Sharma was gone with the current of air of imitation. This High pitch oriented song, sung by Shankar Mahadevan, is definitely impressive and it’s really a heavy composition that would have been turned too difficult to balance by the sound engineer.
The phrases and words of Tamil have been seeing their place in Telugu lyrics in the recent outcomes. A song in ‘Amma Naanna Oka Tamil Ammayi’ is half Telugu and half Tamil. Similarly some lines like ‘…Alahar perumaalum..’ etc., were sounding interesting with a novelty. Probably, they fit right as they are contextual with the film story.
The album itself specifies clearly that the film be based on the backdrop of Madurai. The song ‘Aye Pilla…’ sung by SP Charan and Shreya Ghoshal sounds naughty and contemporary. Shreya Goshal is turned so talented that she could sing in Telugu with all native touch. Hats off to Shreya Goshal. Rest of the singers in the cassette has done very well on par with each other.
But Udit Narayan is still not proficient in singing in proper Telugu even after working for myriad films. “Raa Raa ekkada pothaav raa…” is horrible to the ears, despite interesting composition. Udit’s pronunciation of the words killed the melody of Telugu. Music Director should have taken care in this perspective.
All together the songs in ‘Arjun’ may not bestow the right impact in the first listening. But the second and further trials will certainly do.
