Sam garu, my father said that they have set up hundis near few shirdi saibaba temples for this purpose and temple authorities are receiving checks in the favor of 'satya saibaba seva samithi' subjected to this purpose. My father has no direct links with any of those, ofcourse.
I think we can contact any voluntary organizations for that matter - like redcross, YMCA or I heard that even chiranjeevi charitable trust is coming forward on this.

I heard satya baba seva samithi involves in lot of social work. Do you know if they are doing any fund collection exclusively for this family? Do you participate or do you know anybody whom we can contact etc.

Great going guys! It is nice to see so many good hearts in this DB.
In fact, I have already asked my father to donate Rs.3000 from my NRI account to that family (thru Satya baba Seva Samithi). If I had known earlier, I would have sent it through BTDB. Anyways, hopefully all of our help should reach him.
Opening bank account on the child's name, with his mother being the gaurdian would be the best idea. That way, they can use the monthly interest.
Also, how about opening a telephone/std booth (on handicapped quota)? However, I am not sure about that lady's physical condition, regarding her fitness to manage a telephone booth. Also, no idea on how remote that village is!
Once again, my best wishes to all of you for putting up all these efforts for a social cause. |

Best option would be to take care of immediate expenses and then help them out monthly with the interest that comes out from Bank/Post office.
Somebody visiting that family and analyze thier situation would help us to decide what to do with the fund. I am sure 100K target can be reachable.

I think First option is best mama since running a tea stall and taking care of that business is difficult and involves a laborious process which she can not handle since her spinal card is injured.
I would like to contribute periodically for the boy studies too. In another 6 months I will be going back to India. I will personally visit the place and provide some more cloths and money to the family. Maa voori nundu 2 hours journey bandi meeda...

Here is what I would say
1. Let someone in India have a copy of the news item.
2. Contact EENADU saying people responded for the news item and want to help the boy.
3. Take proper address of the Boy.
4. If possible try to contact local panchayat chairman or someone (eenadu might help on this).
5. Once everything is in hand ( i mean the check or dd) then someone can goto the place along with news item and make sure few good/big people of that village are present there.
6. THen the money can be deposited in a bank in association with local bank authorities.
7. Some amount out of the total can be given towards immediate expenses for buying some items.
8. We can have telephone number of someone in the village and can make a enquiry once a fortnight or month.
Any additions/modifications to the above are most welcome.

Seems like fitst option has more support. Even I was doubtfull of second option because to run that they need some support like getting inventory etc etc.

mamalu I think by now all of you know that we are close to collecting more than 1000$ for the 7yrs old boy's family after reading the story in EENADU.
I think people like us in different locations and different communities will also be responding to the cause.
Please help wiht your opinion about what is the best way form of help that we can do to that family with the tiny amount we collected in just one day.
Giving cash might do harm to the family than good.
My thoughts:
One option is : we will deposit money in Bank or Post office (in their name). They will be taking interest for monthly expenses. Anybody with banking knowledge, please explain good/bad on this option.
Second option is: They might want to put up a smaal stall (baddi kottu) and
she may be able to manage that sitting int he store.
or but her a wheel chair.
