The stunts of Hero Balakrishna in this film will be spectacular. He is of middle-age and the effort he is putting for this is great. The cars he had driven for this film will be remembered by his fans and the crowds. He has done a wonderful job and I am having a good time composing fight sequences for him. In spite of his injury to his leg, he has performed the stunts without any dupe.

Peter Hence is the only fight master who is quite busy not only in telugu an tamil but also in Hindi industry. His actions sequences are quite an attraction to the audience. Recently his stunts in ‘Aparichitudu’ and ‘Athadu’ got good name to him.

Where are you from?

I am from Vietnam. My grandfather is an Indian. He settled in Vietnam with his family. My father’s name is Mr.Perumal. He is a Martial Arts Professional. He is a kung fu expert. I was weak in studies. He then asked me to take up stunt direction. I was very shy from the very beginning. What I have achieved is because of my father only. He guides me in every way.
How did you come into telugu film industry?

I was a stunt man in Chennai. The masters for whom I used to work were doing Telugu films at that time. I worked under fight masters ‘Pepsi’ Vijayan and Kanal Kannan. I used to work as fight master and assistant. I worked in many films with Director Krishna Vamsi and Hero Chiranjeevi’s film ‘Anji’.
What was your first film as a fighter?

My first film as a fighter was Amaravathi. It was also the first film of Actor and Hero Ajith. The Telugu film Industry gave me the first opportunity to become a fight master. My first film to release as a stunt director was Hero Mahesh Babu starrer Murari. I did ‘Minnale’ for director Gautam. I used to think differently and my composings used to be very natural and not artificial. I always wanted to do fights differently from the rest of the others. I have the liberty to do things my own way. I am trying my best to achieve it.
Are you doing any Hindi movies?

I am doing Hindi movies. I had to leave three films in Hindi because of prior commitments. I did Family starring Amithabh Bachnan and Akshay Kumar. I had to leave producer-director Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s mega movie ‘Ekalavya’ for Ambika Arts Production. I even took advance for that film. Then the Producer Ambika Krishna came and said you have to do this film. I agreed. My remuneration for that Hindi film was Rs.35 Lakhs. I returned the advance and said I will work with you whenever an opportunity arises. I am comfortable working in Telugu films even though the market has a limited value.
How did you become Fight Master?

I did not go to anybody and asked for work. They saw my talent and they encouraged me to take up stunt direction. I didn’t have the idea of becoming fight master. I prayed to God to give me the right chance, He was the one who gave it. That’s how I started my career as a fight master.
How many films did you work as a Stunt Director?

I think I would have worked for 35 films as a stunt director. It includes all kinds of films, be it big or small. In Tamil it would the same. Actually I am weak in remembering the no. of films I worked for. I don’t give importance to numbers. What is presently on hand I take it up and do it with full involvement. I do my job with concentration, rest of the things are taken care of by my Manager. Today in India I do have a good name. In Chennai I am known as Star fight master. I always do my homework. Unlike other fight masters I hate to work in a rigid way. I will be writing it in a paper and then approach the director with my ideas. I record each and every shot. There will be no waste of time, my director will be happy. I am following the Hollywood style of Stunt Direction, where there is co-ordination between the director and the fight master. Everything will be cleared before the film goes on the sets. There will be no problems from my side for the producers.

How is the working style of Telugu Heroes?

There is no difference in the working style of the Telugu Heroes. There is not much a difference between them, because no one has any Martial Arts background. All heroes give their best. Whatever shots we do is in our hands. It all depends on getting the best out of each and every hero. Everybody has his own talent. I like the working style of everybody in the film industry.

What is special about this film?

Everything in this film is special to me. Working in this film is a great experience for me. I refused three films to work for this film. The story of this is very powerful. When I listened to the story I have a feeling it is going to be a big hit. I always enjoy what I do. The story itself is enough for it to make a hit. I am leaving the judgment to the audience. You will see a different Balakrishna in this film. I am working in this film because of Hero Balakrishna.
How many fight sequences are there in this film?

There are many fights in the film. The film is through and through an action film. There are many thrills and twists in this film. The director of this film A.S.Ravi Kumar Chowdry has brilliantly made up the story in such a way the audience will never know what is coming next. As a technician I, myself was confused and thrilled when he narrated the story. This film is going to be like ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S’ that is for sure. I am doing my best in this film. The sequence which I am doing in this film is a big thing for me. The chase sequence which I am doing for this film will reach Hollywood levels. Nobody should compare my chase sequence be it the Bollywood or the Tamil film industry. It will match any Hollywood stunt sequence. I do believe that I can do it. I have done it and I will do it again. The result is there for you to see. Everybody co-operated with me for this film. I am happy with my effort.
Is it necessary to spend so much on the Fights?

Actually, according to me it is not necessary. If the story requires it and the producer is willing to spend huge amounts of money I will compose fight sequences in a grand manner. The films should not have a restricted budget and the producer for this film gave me total freedom to do whatever I want. What the producer spent for the action sequences is huge in this film. I am thankful to him. Hero Balakrishna himself drove the cars without the using any dupes. We shot inside the Charminar and you will see both the vehicles topple in front of the Assembly. You can also see vehicle going through the Charminar.
Did you have any problems composing fight sequences for Heroes?

It rarely happens in my case. I compose fight sequences keeping each and every Hero’s style in mind. I never cross the limit. There is I take the emotional levels into account while shooting fight sequences. The robots which have used for my earlier film ‘Chatrapathi’ is not an artificial one. I am making improvements in my fight sequences and I am giving my best. Cinema is like an ocean. The more you learn the more you will know.
Are you inspired from any Hollywood films?

I do see Hollywood films. I see all the good action ilms. I don’t copy the fight scenes as such. I go to their web-site and try to copy the latest graphics and the procedure. I then create my own. I cannot copy the Hollywood action sequences as it is. There is a difference in culture and lifestyle. I try to use the technique which they used for their films. When I went to Hong Kong I met Director John Woo. I even met the Stunt Director of Matrix. I am happy that overseas people know me. When I went to Hollywood I had been with Dream Works, a film making company. I went around the company and did a lot of research. I am using those techniques for this film. My Producer is ready to spend for the flying camera. Its name is Milo. It’s the best camera in the world technically. The Indian Government did not give permission for the flying camera. The NRI people are happy because the films like ‘Anniyan(Aparichitudu)’, ‘Athadu’, and ‘Chatrapathi’ are reaching their standards. The only person I love in this world is my wife. I love my job from the very beginning. If my producer is happy, it means hundred families will survive. My job is to make the producer happy by working hard.
Do you like action films?

Frankly speaking I hate actions films. I love good musical and romantic entertainers. It should appeal to the kids and children alike. Violence is in our culture, even in family films there is action. So it is hard to make a film without fight scenes.
Do you know Martial Arts?

I have got training in Chinese International Kick Boxing. I have got a Second Dan in that. I did fight in some tournaments, where I won some and lost some.
What are your future projects?

Actually I am not accepting any films. I am going to direct a film in the near future. It will be a Telugu one. The film ‘Shivaji’ will be my last film as an action director. I am doing it for Director Shankar.
Tell us something about the film ‘Shivaji’?

I am not supposed to say anything about the film. All I can say is it is going to be different film with loads of action episodes.
