Chiranjeevi was in press, the other day, requesting his fans not to come to Hyderabad to greet him personally today, his birthday, as he is out of the city. However, wherever he is there he is aware that thoughts of his fans are always with him. We heard often the Megastar addressing his fans, saying that ‘without you I have no existence’. ‘Your strength is my strength.’ But one thing is sure that he is aware that many persons think of him not just as a star far above the rating of others, but a human who works for the cause of their health. Though he is limited himself to the blood banks, Eye banks, there were occasions he donated openly and quietly as well for various causes and calamities. On a birth day people think of him not because of the success of his films but more because of this human touch, which most of the stars lack.
He is aware that the money he is earning and enjoying is people’s money, his viewer’s money that they gave for the terrific entertainment he has been giving to them and some message. True, cinema is escapist fare. Yet it wields such a power on spectators that for a moment quite a few of the youngsters, especially in impressionist age, feel they are heroes and have the strength to tackle problems.
Chiranjeevi wonders now and then whether it was his luck that won him so much following or his attitude to life and hard work. For any one in cinema, the first word is ‘luck’. But there are few artistes who believe in themselves and put in hard work to win the grace of ‘luck’. NTR told me once about a dialogue that went between him and L.V.Prasad, who put him on screen. After screen tests it appears that Prasad told him that everything was good with NTR, but only ‘luck’ should favor him. To which NTR said “Thank you sir? If I am good and suitable to take film acting as my career, I shall put hard work. Then ‘luck’ will sure favor me, automatically.” This sentence holds good even for Chiranjeevi. To those who watched him struggling for perfection of the role he is playing, one gets the impression that he is not leaving no stone unturned. There were occasions when he himself planned his action parts of course with the advice of the action directors. He struggles for the perfection of the characters like Lord Siva in stage dance scene in the film ‘Apadbhandhavudu’ that won him Nandi award as best actor of that year.
Chiranjeevi’s public relations are ideal. He meets every one and greets them and even gets photographed. It is a kind of ‘blood’ relationship, when he meets blood donors. Many give blood at his request. Blood banks are opened at different places. It is Seven years story and is a silent revolution he brought in. Even eye banks are opened.
Chiranjeevi entered cinema when during those times when all the top stars including NTR and ANR were at their peak and still active. But none earlier to him or after he joined the industry, could match his dancing and action skills. He came to this position by hard way. He is also darling actor for many children. For that matter he is family artiste. He never forgot to introduce a single scene at least to entertain children, at times adding computer graphics.
Most of his films carry message for the society. He feels it his responsibility to tell something to people. ‘Indra’ and ‘Tagore’ made a great social impact on the youth, some even ventured to expose the corrupt. Now the film being made by Nagubabu for their Anjana productions will fall in the line of Indra and Tagore. Murugadasan, author of Tagore story, gave story for this too.
Thus this Konidela Siva Sankara Vara prasad is today fifty-year-old 'Chiranjeevi' and growing younger day-by-day, adding successes to his career. There is clap in the auditorium, whenever one or the other character in the film mentions his name. He feels he gave a different meaning to fan culture. He converted them into social workers.
We wish him a very long youthful life.
