Analysis: First half of the film is pretty slow. Second half has Bihar backdrop. The narration of the film is pretty slow. Plus points are Gopichand's histrionics, photography and comedy episodes by Sunil-Lakshmipati duo. The negative aspects are not being able to establish the emotional scenes in way they make audiences feel for the characters. The title of the film 'Andhrudu' is so powerful that the character of hero should have mass heroism to do justice to the title. But the director made the characterization of hero a soft one. On a whole, Andhrudu makes an average flick.

With Yagnam, Gopichand has got name as action hero in frontbenchers in particular. Director Parachoori Murali has tried to tread in the same path but he fails miserably. With his tacky screenplay and laughable action sequences, the film is a big bore for most part of the film. Except the ‘very fine’ ‘opening sequence of the film’ and Gopi Chand’s performance, the film is yawn some.
Parachoori Murali has tried to recycle ‘hit faction films’ with a different milieu (this time the film is set in Bihar like in NTR’s Sinhadri which was set in Kerala) but the characters and their behavior are clichéd and the proceedings are very predictable. Added to this, half of the film looks like watching a Hindi film, for the entire villain group converse in Hindi.
The film’s story has many twists and sub-plots but to put in nutshell it goes thus..
Surendra (Gopichand), a Sub-Inspector of Police, falls in love with a beautiful girl Archana (Gowri Pandit) who comes to his father (K Vishwanath) to learn music. But things led her to believe that Surendra is a thief and he is the one who stole her diamond necklace. Expectedly, they fell in love once the misunderstandings disappear. As they are about to engaged, Archana’s father (Pawan Malhotra) gets call from his estranged sister and her husband who are in Bihar that they want to reestablish the ties with the family.
For the sake of her family, Archana sacrifices her love and goes with her family to Bihar. Her parents marry her off to her menabava (Salim Panda) but her heart still beats for Surendra. The rest of the film is how Surendra rescues her from the shackles of her menacing and ruthless uncle Rana Pratap Singh (Shayaji Shinde).
As an actor Gopichand has done fantastic job. He exudes confidence and menace with terrific screen presence. His powerful gaiety and glances gets claps from frontbenchers. Gowri Pandit lacks charming face but she scores with her performance. Shayaji Shinde’s role and his performance are first-class. He has almost equal footage of hero’s. Sunil and Laxmipathi’s comedy makes audiences in splits.
Though the film’s first half is dragging it has some lighter moments and less heavier than the second half. The best part of the film is its cinematography (by Vijay), Kalyani Malik’s music (interestingly there are no duets in the film), and Gopichand.
JP’s Verdict: The film may work in B and C centers. |
