Furher maama

here is the clarification:

DELETE:- THIS ALWAYS WORKS with a "COMMIT" command means when you DELETE the records..still the deleted records are stored in buffer though the table space is cleaned up...neeku kaavalante you can "ROLLBACK" at any point of time ..ORACLE ALWAYS SUGGESTS YOU USE DELETE even when you are issuing the command from informatica or from any oracle layered tools.

TRUANCATE:- This just removes records ONCE FOR ALL and THE TABLE SPACE at a single shot and YOU HAVE NO OPTIONS TO ROLL BACK..idi maama sangathi

PS: neev cheptunnattu time difference em undadu maama practically unless you table is linked with many childs..with my experience i can say that TRUNCATE takes more time than DELETE.

adi maama ..

MM correcte mama.. huge volumes of data vuntey yem chestham.. truncate chestham ganda... am issuing the truncate command through informatica mama.. Ofcourse, informatica provides option to delete the rows based on a primary key... but it is time consuming taking into the account the number of rows to be deleted... anduke truncate use chestham ... and sometimes, my table may not have a primary key for the informatica to identify each row and delete them...

sare mama naku oka 1 million rows vunnayanuko table lo.. what do you suggest me to delete or truncate them... delete ayithey chala time paduthundi ganda.. ade truncate fast....

Mamu

never use truncate in oracle ..its bad way of removing the records ..

the only thing is delete the records..

always make sure u create a synonym and purge data into that table as a backup(can use if the data gets corrupted)..then remove constraints on the tables where you wanna delete the data...do your deletions and apply contraints..

VERY IMP: make sure you complie all the objects within that schema/DB before using the data ..else there is every chance that the data getting corrupted..

inka etanna doubts unte seppu naaku telsina koosintha claripy chestha

Nenu RDBMS specialist ni emi kaanu...but i think we cannot truncate objects that have child tables,

first we may need to delete the foriegn key and then truncate the parent table and then put the foriegn key
back.

Can delete any row that will not violate a constraint, while leaving the foreign key as it is
Whereas cannot truncate a table with foreign key constraint, so remove that then truncate and then add the foreign key constraint. dorikindile answer discussion forums lo...

ammani basics dengayi naku...
