Mahesh Babu acted in a handful of films after he became adult actor, with a few successes. Yet he is highly estimated artiste. Mahesh Babu’s image has gone up with ‘Okkadu’, which stands out as his best film. Gone are the days when he was his father’s shadow. This is one reason why so much of talk is going on about his latest film ATHADU, scheduled to be released on August 12. Even he prayed for its success visiting temple along with his wife. Besides, Jayabheri arts Productions of Muralimohan and Kishore is also is at stake. It is long that this banner made any film ‘Avida Maa Avide’ six years back.
This is second directorial effort of Trivikram Srinivas, who is more branded as a sharp shooter of dialogue. It is said that ‘Athadu’ was the first film Trivikram wanted to come out as a director. But Mahesh Babu was busy then. That explains why the project took time after signing three years back. One hopes that this film will give Trivikram a real break from class to mass. This is the costliest film for Mahesh – money and reputation-wise. Kishore is confident that his product is its money’s worth, though the exact figure of investment is not known. Presently this is the only much talked about film.
The subject was shot against urban and rural backdrops. It is said most of the drama runs in a village to where the hero shifts for various reasons. He starts off as professional killer in urban land. He is orphan, like many heroes, from birth. That naturally pushes him into circumstances to becomes a professional killer. The film then tells about the backdrop of his family. He comes to know of it. He then shifts to the village in his urge to trace them. He wants to become part of the family. That is when he comes across his ‘Maradalu’ Trisha. The problems he faces are narrated next. He slowly starts understanding the advantages of living in a large family with grandpas and grandchildren, brothers and sisters and so on. They help him to change his mind set. Trisha does that job mostly. There are usual pranks, between them, working up their emotions. This chapter of love drama forms one of the essential features of the film. Prakash Raj plays a CBI officer. Mahesh Babu confronts with him and this part too is regarded as the best in drama. There is a scene, they say, that both Mahesh and Prakashraj expressing feelings of confrontation only with ‘Netrabhinayam’ (eye gestures).
Nazer, Rahuldev and Sonu Sud also get good roles within the story line. Major part is rural drama. For this purpose they spent a lot of money for construction of different sets in Padmalaya Studios. Earlier they tried to locate places on Kerala and other parts. But they did not like. The action part there was shot for 27 days as was already reported. Peter Heins takes credit for that Hollywood style action drama.
The market guesswork is divided. The reasons are many. The project been old, too much of publicity especially by Kishore, Trivikram’s debut making as director, after his first film failed, Heavy budget, the talk that producer demanded more money for his film and delayed its release till he could make his business Now and so on. It appears that everything is settled that industry awaits with fingers crossed as to its success because the more the money is spent on a film project, the more is the need for its success, as this success only helps the health of the film industry, for its positive growth
