Now, for some possible controversies:
PK ki four superhits (simple gaa "superhit" anEstE vaaTi range ki takkuva anukunTE "vaaTi range EnTO aa range hits" ani chaduvukOvacchu) vacchaayi, vacchaayi... vaaTilO PK ilaa chEsaaDu, idi poDichaaDu, etc. annee cheptunnaaru, correct-E ...EmO, nijamE kaavacchu, kaadani ananu. nEnu "badri" chooLLEdu. adE kaadu, suswaagatam, AAIA kooDaa chooLLEdu. But, what are the criteria by which PK chooses his movies? Shouldn't they be judged by the same criteria after release?
In my opinion, these are the important criteria:
* His role or his movie should not be totally meaningless or illogical (read as "routinely cinematic/dramatic"). Sensibleness is what I am talking about.
* Sensuous feelings are shown with the required aesthetic.
* Unnecessary issues are unnecessary. Period. (Kushi was an exception, and that's why I didn't like Kushi very much.)
When a hero doesn't miss these elements in his movies, these are probably important for him. What kind of movie, then, would one expect from such a hero?! These were exactly my expectations of the movie Johnny, and these would still be my expectations for guDumbaa Sankar. Either my expectations are met, or I'm in for a surprise, which might be good. I have an open mind when I go see a movie, and I come out liking it, unless it's senseless. By "senseless", I mean to imply the carelessness of the moviemakers (artistes included) in portraying the minute details and realism which are cared of by a lesser percentage of viewers.

Ippudu take for example :- ma alwal area lo TP has come 6 times thrice in Lakshmikala and thrice in nartaki. e six times lo all the five times super duper collections only the last time when it came the collections were not there. Ante alwal lanti chinna area lo kuda almost 50 days addesindhi bomma.

Cinejeevi garu iddigo e kind chaduvukondi about PK's andhra record of the below 4 movies..
His fourth film, Toliprema, took the AP state by surprise with it's sweet storyline, slick direction and right performances by actors. This film proved the youth that a new STAR ENTERTAINER is born. It ran for 100 days in 16 centers on it's own merit. The theater owners fell in love with film so much that they could not terminate this film out of their respective theaters on it's 101st day. Out of 16 centers, only Amalapuram center managed to take this film out of theater on 101st day. The following theaters exhibited this movie for more than 125 days.
Sandhya 70mm (Hyderabad - 217 days), Amir (Cudappah - 161 days), Leela Mahal (Vizag - 125 days), Maha Laxmi (Bheemavaram - 146 days), Sailaja (Vijayawada - 147 days) and Liberty(Guntur 224 days).
Pawan's fifth film, Tammudu, did a wonderful job at the Box office. This film has defied the law of gravity when it came to Pawan Kalyan's career graph. All detractors of Pawan, who dubbed Toliprema as a flash in the pan could not mince their words and ate the humble pie after seeing this film. The trade pundits started comparing his box office performance with that of his elder brother Chiranjeevi. This film ran for 100 days in 23 centers in spite of all odds created. This film ran for 176 days in Yuvaraj, Vijayawada.
His sixth film, Badri, which started with a flop talk turned out to be a mega grosser. Thanks to the one-man-ship of Pawan Kalyan. He reaffirmed his grip on Box office with this film that had a weakling storyline. This film ran for 100 days in 39 centers.
Pawan's Seventh film Kushi turned out to be an ultimate masterstroke. This is the first film of Pawan Kalyan that got a super hit talk from the morning show of the release day. It ran for 50 days on 102 centers and 100 days in 79 centers. It is successfully running towards 175 days in all major centers. Trade pundits have dubbed Pawan Kalyan as Andhra's Rajni Kant for Pawan's selective film making and the magnitude of the successes he is getting.

FYI nonstopcinema vaadu nellore lo top movies list lo both toliprema and badri vunnai and so in vizag and also in the top 50 list for vijayawada.

Pawan Kalyan’s new film Gudumba Shankar will release on the 20th of August . The final schedule of the film had begun on the 4th of this month, where 3 songs and a climax are to be picturized. While 2 songs are to be canned between the lead pair, one is a solo song. The climax will be shot between the 17th and 25th of this month. Aditya Music, which bagged the audio rights of the film plans to unleash the cassettes into the market in the 3rd week of July. Veera Shankar directs this film, for which Mani Sharma scores the music.

4 super hits and dream hits to PK = Toli Prema, Thammudu, Kushi and Badri. Yes you are right unfortunately all of them belong to the same genre (youth love story movies). So they are a dream for a Mahesh Babu or a Uday Kiran or a Pawan Kalyan but not to Chiranjeevi or NBK or Nag or Venkatesh or even a young Jr. NTR
The one time Pk ventured out of that genre he faced resistance. That however we can attribute to bad script. Lets see PK in mass appealing roles and gauge his popularity as a whole then. Otherwise he'll end up like a Venkatesh (only more popular). Thats all.

even though pk got initial support from chiru. hydbad lo hes got more craze..

craze means when someone wants to be like a person. i would rather be pawankalyan in movies over chiru or any other hero because hes the koolest.
go to anyone in hydbad..college or school going kids. and ask them who would they like to be(in heros) if they are given a chance. most of them will say Pawan Kalyan.

the problem with pk fans at the time of Johnny (or most of them in AP and in DBs) was they never were ready to even argue what if it fails. They always claimed that PK never fails based on past. They conveniently forgot that his first film itself is not good.
When u toss up a coin there is equal chance for Head and Tail. but fans never considered tail. so rival fans took the opportunity in AP and DBs and ripped off.

Publicity and hype are fine in any business mamalu. ee records godavendo kaani, there shouild be some central body that monitors these, atleast these number-crunching fans will do some better things with their time. I thought telugu films were the most efficiently managed w.r.t budget control ( anji is prolly an exception ). |

someone said allu aravind cashed on the craze but he is the producer right?? I am not blaming aravind either. If i were him i would probably do the same thing. Sell the product for as much money as I can. I dont see any reason why should a Producer or Hero should be giving money back. If someone else is giving then it is their own kindness. That does not mean if someone dont give he is not good.
FOr Johnny instead of Hero (poor guy he was quiet until its release) it was Fans and others who did hungama and producer cleverly cashed it by selling batta mukkalu (head bands) etc.,

johnny movie got killed because of 2 things: lack of commercial elements and pace. narration was too too slow...
dont know why pawan felt to do this away after achieving success by doing peppy roles.
also heard that the first copy of this movie was seen by guys like poori but then they gave a very high view (meekenti sir tirugu ledu kind of opinion)...
believe all these killed the movie. and detractors tore pawan apart assuming that he was the first hero ever to have flopped ! |

good to see u in DBs actively. The point here is timing. I saw both Nijam and Johnny on the same day and I liked Johnny compared to Nijam. Thx to the vulgarity in the first half of Nijam which dominated Mahi's action. I dont want to make this thread johnny vs nijam.
Usually lot of so called educated people react differently than under educated (illeterate) for certain consequences. Johnny is perfect Opposite content of what a HERO will do (than what he should do) on the screen for his problems and added to it the bad points fueled the fire.

the difference is the time of viewing in my opinion. at the time of release there were high expectations on the movie (especially due to the facts that PK's movie releasing after one year following the superhit khushi, his first directional venture etc. etc.). the expectations were more than what tagore had at the time of it's release. so people were obviously disappointed with the outcome (they were expecting on the lines of khushi and badri). when i rented the dvd, i watched it with very low expectations (based on the reviews i read in the websites). when i watched the movie, i felt that it was not as bad as it was projected out to be. if he had chosen a different backdrop, probably PK would have succeeded as a director. you have watched the movie after more than a year and your feelings are different than mine.
some movies which might have been big hits at the time of their release may not be good if you watch them now and vice versa.

Jai , I haven't watched this movie, Not because I don't like it , But I did not get a chance to watch it,
At the time of release a review was written in a site , and I vehmently opposed the review written .
That website gave reviews as Bhala vadeve basu as not good not bad, but for this movie they made comments like Basketball courts looked wet, the Hotel set looked like a Bar in US etc etc.
As you claim that it is impartial site why don't you write your review in that site ?

Good thread Jai mama,
The movie disappointed majorly because of the lack of typical mass elements which one would expect after watching flicks like Khushi and Badri.
People took it as chance to criticize PK..but just carefully look at the picture and the skills of debut director. You'll definetly be amused. Ofcourse it has several pitfalls..one among them it is very slow paced.
It cannot be compared to the other mega flops like mrugaraju, nippuravva, bobby, autodriver, Gemini etc.
Don't try to kill young talent just because of some personal hatred. Think rationally and reasonably..isn't he better than people like NBK, jrNTR, Tarakaratna. |

* Screenplay was a bit loose.
