I find that many on this DB have a genetic opposition to muslims in the country and have a VERY serious doubt if any of those ppl have had a single muslim friend in their life.

Interesting observation there chalam babai!

I have a story to tell in this regard and its my own story.. Ive been brought up in a strong muslim locality (ive spent 13 yrs of my life in that locality) and Ive had had many muslim friends , and i have seen all kinds. I have a couple of close muslim friends and other is a doctor.

Last december when i went to india i met this doctor muslim friend and at one time during our talks he said how he was being discriminated for being muslim in hospitals. He used to work in CDR and CARE hospitals but later he joined Owaisi hospital. He was telling the plight of muslim doctors in general( this was one reason for me heavily empathasizing with khakhee movie).

Like many other docotrs he could have gone to london to earn more money but he chose to stay back and what did he recieve .. all kinds of shit for being a muslim. We tend to behave like herd of sheep whn it comes to anti muslim feelings. With out even knowing the facts we hate them.

Sorry for digressing here but I just wanted to share. And fellas I am not a muslim but am sure a muslim sympathiser and even today i feel ashamed for what has happened in Gujurat and Godra.

sure smart mama.

IBM - GN is not a very capable masala film maker but it's clear that he is a thinking guy. the way he creates filmi versions of real-life events and then involves the characters in these events is really good. Story seems to be by some Meenakshi Sharma. nihalani handles, cinematography, direction and partly script.

babai, I hope Sarang comes here but I think he ( and by extension many on this board, most of whom prolly never interacted with an average muslim and just go by the stereotype) has a deep persecution complex as far as Hindus go. most of it real, some of it imagined - like the reaction to Dev. it's no fiction to say that the muslims of the country feel that 'alien' attitude from Hindus. us being in majority simply means 7 out of 10 ppl u meet would prolly feel the same. there are soem basic facts mama, 15 cr of them are here to stay - so what do you do? ee question evaru satisfactory ga answer cheyyaru. election politics, cowardly nature of ppl like Rajiv Gandhi, divisive politics of Narendra modi odnt help.

yes, I've bvegun to like kareena. she has the potential babai.

dev pai vachina widely differing opinions , ye cinemaki choodaledu nenu...
some have outrightly trashed it...saying gn should stop this 'marriage of commerical and art cinema' and go back to the cinema he is best at.
others have just stopped short of hailing it as a masterpiece..

"have a VERY serious doubt if any of those ppl have had a single muslim friend in their life"

Boss...this is strange but u have said something that has always been in my mind, something that i have always thought of asking..

Hey but sarang in some other thread made it out to be an anti-hindu movie...( he was saying something like dev lanti cinemalu teeyatam fashion ayipoyindi ...)..that made me believe that the movie was soft on the muslims ...

Kareena and performer....very surprising !!!

this weekend was particularly heavy on me - watched 9/11 and Dev. ( also watched godfather-2, man al pacino rocks :-) ). Dev chronicles all the burning issues before the country as far as communal divisions and politics. IMO, a superlative effort from Nihalani. doesnt mind calling a spade what it is. inspite of his protests that modi and gujarat were not behind the script, its too obvious that they were. CM speaks 'shudh hindi' and asks the cops to backout. superb performances from amitabh, Om puri ( I thought this character was not properly etched out, gets confusing towards the end ) and kareena. actually I never liked her earlier but after chameli and yuva, I think we have a performer in Hindi cinema.

This thread is actually a reaction to an article i read in ToI where daughter of Saeed Naqvi accuses Dev of being anti-muslim. cant find it now but that was a very irresponsible article. you wont find a more muslim-sympathetic movie than Dev and I believe what was shown was the reality. Amitabh's character personifies what 'should' have been done by the police and Om Puri as to what 'actually' happened. I find that many on this DB have a genetic opposition to muslims in the country and have a VERY serious doubt if any of those ppl have had a single muslim friend in their life. for such folks, please watch Dev to understand some of the issues facing that community.
