It's long time since we heard about Iron-leg Sastry. With tall and hefty body and bald head, this man was a must in every film along with comedian Brahmanandam, till a couple of years ago. Guess what he is doing now? He is virtually begging in the streets of Anaparthi in Visakhapatnam! One can find Sastry in torn and dusty clothes begging the passers by to provide him breakfast, lunch or a cup of coffee. He admits that he squandered all the money he had earned in films on boozing and now he is penniless. Traditional families in the district do not entertain him, because he had earned the notorierty for his iron leg -- he will bring badluck to anyone who gives him shelter. Nobody knows about his family. And people are now showing pity and sympathy for him, but no director is willing to give him any roles in films. That is the Telugu film industry! |

Andhra Talk: Heroines In Vikas Reddy’s Sex Racket!
Vikas Reddy’s sex racket is once again hitting the sight of media. He shared his activities in an interview on 18th May and uttered the names of a few heroines who are involved in this business.
He has already told that the names of five actresses from Tollywood, who were involved in such activities through him.
He said that he has got connections with the ace heroines from Bollywood to up coming actresses for flesh trade. He also said that he used to send a few heroines to the businessmen abroad at a very huge price.
He also added saying that about 8000 girls from all walks of life from film field to college girls are turning part-time sex workers.
His spellbinding statement is saying that a Bollywood heroine is charging Rs.1 million dollar for a single night. In the interview he told the names of N-g--a, R-m--a and Mand----i.
Police have traced out the whereabouts of the team members included in this racket. While a few were arrested, others have turned fugitives.
Tammareddy Bharadwaja says, “ We need not think why these heroines are doing such activities. We have to think what to be done to cure the situation”.
Veteran comedian Sutti Velu says, “ They can be gossips. Even though they are true we cannot do anything other than sitting calm. Because, when both parties are interested who can stop them?”
“ Id, ego and super ego are the three constituents of human psychology. Id comprises animal instincts. So, craving for intimate relationships is a common thought among human beings. But the self-consciousness (ego) restricts many from doing whatever they feel in this aspect. When the desire for riches, obviously, overtakes that consciousness people tend to do these activities”, says Rambabu Manchiraju, a film person in early 60s.
“ Flesh trade is not restricted only to film field. It’s there every where”, says another film director.
However, the film personalities involving in such activities turn out to be news as they are focused to public and media. |

Pawan Kalyan And Judo Fighters!

Shifting Crown From Chiranjeevi To Rajni!
In the rat race, Rajnikanth has overtaken the likes of Shahrukh Khan, Chiranjeevi and others of their league.
Leaving the rest far behind, Rajnikant, the superstar of Tamil cinema has now become the new icon of Indian cinema with his latest super-duper hit Chandramukhi.
Industry sources said his latest flick could well gross over $10 million.
Of the total collections, Rajni would pocket 50 per cent as his fee.
This in turn translates into a sum upwards of Rs 15 crore, thereby, passing on the crown from Chiranjeevi – icon of Telugu cinema – to Rajni.
Chiranjeevi's Tagore was considered the biggest regional language hit so far.
Released on April 14 (Tamil New Year), Rajni's Chandramukhi has been enthralling audiences across South India.
Chandramukhi has scripted a success story all over. While Rajnikant's charisma and screen presence is definitely helping in the success, the state government too has a hand in it.
The lower entertainment tax (15 per cent ), introduced last year and success in preventing pirated VCDs from flooding the market during the first few days, have all added up to the ultimate results.
Without Rajnikant's remuneration, industry sources place the cost of production of the film at about Rs 5 crore.
The sale proceeds were estimated at a conservative Rs 30 crore from theatrical, overseas, audio and satellite rights.
The collections of Chandramukhi has overtaken that of Padayappa (his biggest hit, released in 2000) in most centres, trade sources pointed out.
The movie is having an extraordinary run in the overseas market too. |

Naidu Back To Basics!
If one were to go by the surveys conducted by various print and electronic media in the State, Telugu Desam president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s performance in the last one year as an Opposition leader was far from satisfactory. In a bid to put up an aggressive posture against the Congress government, Naidu went a bit overboard and exposed his own weakness. Instead of highlighting the real problems of the people, Naidu tried to attack the ruling party on the issues of corruption and killing of his own party men in Rayalaseema. He created an impression among the people that he was more interested in protecting his own party interests, rather than the interests of farmers and other poorer sections of the society. Most of the time, he did not move out into the people to know their problems, but remained glued to his seat in the NTR Trust Bhavan in Banjara Hills.
Now, after one year, Naidu apparently realized that the best way to win the hearts of the people is to go to them. Of late, he went to Guntur market yard to know the problems of chilli farmers, where he got tremendous response from the people. This has enthused him to take up tours in the entire State in the name of “Chaitanya yatras.” And why not, it was the same yatras, which fetched his bete noire Y S Rajasekhar Reddy the Chief Minister’s post. |

Successful director Surender Reddy of Athanokkadey fame is doing his next film either with Prabhas or with Allu Arjun. KLN Raju is producing the film. The success brought by Athanakkodaey is bringing many offers to Surender. Unofficial sources have been saying that producers are offering him huge amounts. A report stated that five producers have already given him advance. Well, KLN Raju’s film is about to come to sets in the last week of July. The hero will be confirmed only in the first week of July. Narasimhudu Boosts Up High Expectations!
Producer Changala Venkata Rao stated in a press meet that the film ‘Narasimhudu’ would run for 100 days in 202 centers and sets a unique record.
He shared the efforts those were made in the making of this film to press reporters. He said, “ We have spent a lot on story part itself. I believe that story is the backbone for the success of any film. Rests of the things are only add-ons. We have listened about 150 stories for this film.
Chengala Venkata Rao has turned a known figure with ‘Samarasimha Reddy’ and he has even turned an MLA during the reign of Chandrababu Naidu.
“I took a very long gap since ‘Samarasimha Reddy’ simply due to two reasons. One is my hectic schedule in Politics and the other is brainstorming on the right theme all this time”, he added.
Six songs have been shot for this film where two were made in foreign locations and three in Ramoji film city. An item song was shot on NTR and Arthi on a train between Kerala and Tamilnadu.
“ One cannot resist himself from clapping to NTR’s performance in a few scenes. It’s a combination of both ‘Aadhi’ and ‘Simhadri’. We have made this film for 120 days. It’s a non-faction story. Hero of the film is an orphan and lives in a village. He loves villagers and vice versa. But some gangsters disturb once the peace in the village. NTR retaliates on them turning as a wild lion. That’s the theme of the film ”, Said Chengala Venkata Rao.
“However, B.Gopal’s direction, Paruchuri brothers’ dialogues, Ravi Shankar’s story, Mani Sharma’s music, Ravindrababu’s cinematography and above all NTR’s performance stand unique of their own in this film”, concluded Chengala Venkata Rao.
Well, the film would a success if it really tunes to the matter that the producer told the press. |

If it's a family drama from Supergood Films then it has to be Venkatesh in the lead. RB Choudury and Venky combo gave hits like Raja, Suryavansmam and the latest Sankranthi. Kamasutra Designer’s Collection In Hyderabad!
World-class designer Ritu Beri started NIFD (National Institute Of Fashion Design) in the year 1995 at Chandigarh. The institute stretched its wings and made many a young designer. The institute was also established in Hyderabad last year.
The first anniversary function was held with fashion parade on 16th of May. Various collections of dresses took their place on the ramps.
The names were given to different designs as Goddess collections (painting on saris recalling yester centuries’ glory), Kamasutra Collections (modern and ethnic designs), Indo Western collections (silk kurthas and kurthis), Volcano (dark colored western designs), Wild Attractions (designs inspired by animals) and Embroidery types (with waste materials).
Film actors and actresses have made their presence to the show. Pop singer Smitha, Subbaraju(Arya villain), Raghu (Ravi Teja’s brother), Shiva Balaji, Baladitya and other artistes have made their presence.
The show has run for four hours amidst hues and cries, and claps and yells. |

Genelia unfazed by flops
After her latest film Subhash Chandra Bose, co-starring Venkatesh, proved to be a box office turkey, Genelia D’Souza has signed on the dotted line for another untitled film with ‘young’ hero Nitin. She has two more projects in the pipeline and both her co-stars are said to be ‘young’ heroes. Suddenly, actresses are realising that no matter what the get-up is, co-starring with heroes who are twice their age is doing no good to their image. Genelia and Shriya have learnt it the hard way as their recent films with the 45-plus heroes have flopped miserably.
“You can’t hide anything in front of the camera. I am young and will look it, it’s the hero who is trying to look young, that’s not my problem,” Genelia says diplomatically when asked why producers cast her opposite older stars. She says even though her films flop, the feedback she gets is very positive. “My Tamil film Sachin is a hit, and my fans tell me I’m very beautiful,” she smiles.
When asked what went wrong with her last film with Venkatesh, she said, “I accepted the film after the script was narrated to me but later realised they changed it. I can’t do anything in the last minute and my role was just restricted to just songs. Hereafter, whether it’s a small or big banner I will do the film only if my role is good.” The huge age-gap between the stars was very evident in the film and hence none of the songs made an impact. Though she refused to comment on it, talk in the industry is that many a young heroine is doing a rethink on the kinda roles they are signing up. |

Regaining Chiranjeevi’s Past Glory!
The upcoming film ‘Andarivadu’ is made in a right mix as per the unofficial sources. While half of the film reminds us of hard-core mass films of Chiranjeevi like ‘Rickshaw vodu’, the other half is made in tune with his contemporary image.
However, Chiranjeevi plans to make his next move basing on the receptive levels of the audience in this film. If people show interest on his hardcore image, he tends to zero in on something that appeals mass. Otherwise he sticks on to another Tagore style of movie.
Sources say that the film carries the dialogues of wider range from hardcore mass masala to sharp and shrewd class appealing type. However, the audio of the film is about to release shortly.

Rama Naidu to quit politics and shift to Vizag!
Noted film producer and former Telugu Desam MP Daggubati Rama Naidu is learnt to have decided to call it quits to politics.
He reportedly told Telugu Desam president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that enough is enough and he doesn't want to burn his fingers in politics any more. And that he would continue to serve the people through his Rama Naidu Charitable Trust, which has fetched him more popularity than the politics did.
Sources say Rama Naidu is also worried about the prospects of Telugu film industry, if Telangana State is to be formed. His well-wishers suggested him to shift his base to Visakhapatnam, which is most likely to be the capital of Andhra, in the event of formation of Telangana State. So, Rama Naidu is now busy with his plans to construct a studio in Visakhapatnam. If Telangana doesn't materialise, he will expand his business in both Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. Otherwise, he can shift his base to Vizag, sources say. |

Narasimhudu’s Budget Rs.21 Crore!
Sorces say that the budget incurred on the production of ‘Narasimhudu’ was Rs.21 crore. Indeed, it wasn’t a faction story as told by the producer Chengala Venkata Rao, where the damage expenses would be less.
There wouldn’t be any blowing up vans and landmine blasts. But where the expenses have gone? Indeed there would be damage expenses in general fighting sequences if they are made in affluent way. Gossips are making rounds that NTR has taken the royal share of Rs.6 Crore for this film. Ameesha and Sameera Reddy were paid Rs. 1 Crore each.
However, NTR was considered for such a whopping amount even he has given two flops and one average film in the recent past.

Kamna Hawa In South Indian Cinema!
Kamna Jethmalani, the heroine of the upcoming film ‘Premikulu’ has got another opportunity even before the release of her debut film. She was chosen to pair up with Gopichand for his ‘Ranam’ that is going to be made by the producer Pokuri Babu Rao. Choreographer Ramkrishna is directing the film.
Indeed she has already lifted a chance on Tamil screen to play beside ‘Jayam’ fame Ravi. However, she lined two opportunities a long time before the release of ‘Premikulu’.
The Tollywood was rife with rumours about Kamna not being the granddaughter of legal eagle Ram Jethmalani. She is just a distant relative. Sridevi’s come back trail
She is yesteryear heroine Manjula’s daughter and is looking for a good break in Telugu films. Sridevi, who acted in a few Telugu and Tamil films was not lucky enough to be successful, unlike her mother who ruled Tollywood with her sizzling beauty in the 70’s.
Sridevi acted opposite Prabhas in his debut film Eswar and Ninne Ishtapaddanu with Tarun. She is Manjula’s third born; her two sisters have also tried their hand at movies but didn’t quite make it.

Katrina was an upcoming model in London when Kaizad Gustaad spotted her and signed her for Boom. The film took time in its making and eventually bombed. Meanwhile, she became one of the top models of the country, but Katrina still has starry dreams in her eyes.
"This is a crucial year for me. David Dhawan's Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya is ready for release. The film's performance will decide my future." Criticised for her accented Hindi and lack of emotions, Katrina says she has learnt Indian emotions.
"People should give me time. I have done two South Indian films. Now I have a better understanding of Indian emotions. I can't take the accent out completely, but I have worked on my diction and I am dubbing myself in Maine... "
On the personal front, Katrina still misses her parents, but maintains she has become more mature.
"I am not a party person. I have made a few friends and have got a good manager. Media pressure doesn't get to me any more."
Talking about her statement that going for the uninhibited look in Boom was a fault, Katrina says she stands by it. "I have realised, in India actresses have to carry a certain image." Even on the ramp she has stayed clear of the dare -bare image and interestingly, of late has put on some weight. "You need a slightly different figure for films. I am not doing exercises this year. I have done everything on ramp. It's time to move on. I will keep on doing television commercials, though." |

Paritala Sunita to file nomination on May 13
Paritala Sunita, wife of slain MLA, P. Ravindra, will file her nomination for the Penugonda byelection on May 13. Mrs. Sunita made her first public appearance at Venkatapuram near the tomb of her husband on Monday, and addressed a gathering.

Mahesh’s Athadu Further Delayed!
Mahesh Babu and Trisha’s film Athadu may be delayed further. Rumour is that Mahesh is taking extra care over this film perhaps because it’s his first release after marriage. Apparently a few scenes had to be reshot because Mahesh Babu wasn’t too happy with the way they shaped up. The film was first expected to release in May, but due to Mahesh Babu’s sudden wedding, it was delayed by a month. Now it’s said to be a July release though sources in the industry say it’s doubtful.
Mahesh Babu’s fans however are waiting eagerly for this film and expectations are very high. The unit is said to be leaving for Turkey for a few additional songs sequences. The shooting of the film started last July. Trivikram Srinivas is the director. After this Mahesh is doing a film with Puri Jagannath. His sister Manjula is the producer of the film. |

Ravali’s Struggle In Kerala!
K. Raghavendra Rao’s ‘Pelli Sandadi’ popularized two heroines among Telugus. One among the two was Ravali. She also made her presence in a few successful movies like ‘Vinodham’. Eventually she lost opportunities for the reason of putting on weight at waist. Although made a few presences, the films have turned flops at the box office and she was deserted by film makers.
But gossips are making rounds that she has gone to Kerala and spent sometime there. She is also in regular touch with her friend Sanghavi. Indeed, Sanghavi reduced her waist and heavy flesh at some other places on her body after playing beside Rajasekhar in ‘Shivayya’.
Later, she made her grand return on screen with slim and trim figure. Why would she go there? Is she trying to find a place on Malayalam screen like Laya? Or is she learning something from Sanghavi to reduce her waist?

Shreya’s Remuneration Has Come Down!
Success decides the remuneration of the stars. The film star, either big or small should face the music of flops at some time in his career. At the same time one has to compromise on the remuneration. The formula was understood by Shreya.
Unofficial sources say that Shreya’s remuneration has come down drastically with the consecutive flops. She is being paid Rs. 20 lakhs for the film ‘Chatrapathi’. Her remuneration has come down from Rs.40 lakhs to 20 lakhs all of a sudden.
Still, Shreya is lifting all the opportunities to prove that she’s not an iron leg. She might be striving hard to prove herself with more number of offers even in the slump period of her career. Well, heroines need not worry for flops.

Trisha rejects old heroes!
Trisha, who just celebrated her 22nd birthday, is Tollywood’s most sought after actress. And, the secret to her success is the fact that she’s very particular about acting with young heroes only.
Rumour is the 45 plus actors like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh and Balakrishna did recommend her name for their forthcoming projects but the actress simply refused. “They are too old for me,” she allegedly said. Her forthcoming films are Athadu with Mahesh Babu, an untitled film with Nitin, and Pournami with Prabhas. Food Lovers Among Film Stars!
There is a famous saying, ‘Eat for yourself and dress for others’. Eating habits and appetite are although personal; grab interest of the public if it were the case of celebrities.
The yester years’ film stars, NTR and SVR are known for strong appetites.
Veteran writer Ravi Kondala Rao, once mentioned, in one of his articles, how SV Ranga Rao turned wild when the carriage arrived late for lunch.
People keep saying about the legendary film star, NTR. He used to get up early in the morning at 3:00 AM and after his ablutions and exercises, he had regularly habituated to dine at 5 AM. His menu in that cool dark dawn would include chicken, ghee, garlic, rice, sambar and curd. Cooks used to work in shifts in his residence. Close associates of NTR say that he never used to finish his food without chewing garlic. He never followed dieting in his life time. Above all, NTR was non-alcoholic.
In later period Rao Gopal Rao was another connoisseur of food. During the shooting of ‘Pranam Khareedu’ he used to enjoy pakodis and bajjis heavily in shot gaps. Good and tasty food was his priority in his shooting itinerary.
Chandramohan was another food lover, as per the talk. People say that he finished forty ghee vadas in single sitting once.
Shavukaar Janaki, Rama prabha and Kavitha are also good food lovers. They have even shown themselves in cookery programs in TV channels earlier teaching how to cook varieties of food.
Sutthi Velu is another food fan. He is also a good vegetarian cook. But a gossip once stated that during lunch Sutthi Velu had thrown the plate away as masala wasn’t sufficient in chicken curry!
Besides, almost all the heroes and heroines used to follow dieting. Vanisri’s menu for lunch used to include two pulkas, three pieces of chicken and two glasses of juice.
Nagarjuna is known for his control in consuming food. He never tastes any item for second time even though it gives the most wonderful taste on earth. Well, it’s difficult to have such a control. Probably, that was the secret of Nagarjuna’s ever tucked in tummy and charming silhouette.

Jayaprada Says About ‘City Of Rapes’!
A ward boy raped a nurse at Shathi Kumund Hospital in Delhi recently. The case is still running in court.
Samajvadi MP Jayaprada said in Parliament, “Delhi is the capital city of rapes”.
She elucidated saying that more number of rapes are happening unfortunately in the Nation’s capital city. She spoke on the necessity of lawful dictums to protect women.
She also said that it is not a righteous solution to cover the crime by marrying the girl who he raped. In fact such solution gives a legal license to rape the desired girl.
Apart from rapes, flesh trade is also high in Delhi as per the recent incidents. ‘The Week’ published the plight of middle class college girls indulging in prostitution, a year ago. The pimps and brokers are growing in number as per the observation.
Besides, Necklace Road and NTR marg in Hyderabad is a hub for flesh trade now. Evenings between 7 PM and 10 PM are the peak time for trade, where women stand in line to lure the people.
Neither police nor government lends an eye for this activity.
Who will say about this activity in assembly or parliament? Does woman sits silent when the other women are voluntarily selling their flesh? |

Is Shreya The Iron Leg On Telugu Screen?
Five films of Shreya have gone to the flop bin consecutively. While Shreya is called iron leg with her films — Ishtam, Arjun with Mahesh Babu, Naa Alludu with NTR, Sadaa Mee Sevalo with Venu... — bombed at the box office.
The combination of Shreya and Genalia turned out to be a flop choice on screen. The recent Naa Alludu with NTR was an utter failure at the box office. The present Subhash Chandra Bose is another failure.
Films makers are ignoring a success formula while choosing two heroines. They should focus on the contrast in shape and silhouette of heroines. Stuffed heroines like Sneha or Namitha would be a right choice as second heroine when Shreya is considered to be the first. Genelia is again a chocolate girl like Shreya. Film loses almost half of the audience with this wrong formula.
But now she is acting in the film ‘Mogudu Pellam-O Dongodu’ with Raja. Only time should decide the fate of this film. |

Imaginations And Assumptions On Upcoming Films!
Ravi Teja is coming up as ‘Bhadra’ with Meera Jasmine. What would be the theme of the film? Ravi Teja’s earlier movie ‘Venky’ starring Sneha in the female lead was a suspense thriller with elements of love, music and other soft commercial elements. ‘Naa Autograph’ was an outright novel movie. Well, ‘Bhadra’ may be an action thriller with a family sentiment. Some others opine that it would be a family drama on the lines of successful movie ‘Sankranthi. Few others say that it would be a murder mystery again. The title sounds ‘action’, but one cannot rely on the title and imagine the story of the film (Take for instance ‘Jeans’ casting Prashanth and Aishwarya. It wasn’t even ‘Genes’ that could be a considerable apt title to the story line). Meera Jsmine is the right mix beside Ravi Teja to play his wife. Sensuous family scenes work well with this pair. However, the film is boosting up imaginations among the public.
On the other hand ‘Athadu’, starring Mahesh Babu and Trisha has been getting procrastinated. The interest that is heightening on the movie is its director Trivikram Srinivas. This writer turned director made his directorial debut with Nuvve Nuvve’. The film sounded great with conviction in dialogues but appealed to classes. Similarly, hopes are high on Trivikram. But what would be the theme of this film? Will this be a thriller? May not, as, Trivikram is the director. Will this be an action flick? May be, as, the trend of Mahesh is set for that. Many say that it would be a blend of thick humor. They say that with the experience of ‘Manmadhudu’ and ‘Malleeswari’. Is Trivikram making the film on humorous lines? One has to wait and see.
Above all, the upcoming movie, ‘Andarivadu’ of Megastar is about to hit the screens next month. Sources say that the film is on the lines of Mohanlal’s super hit Malayalam film ‘Natturajuvu’. Audio of the film is about to release on 11th May. Devisriprasad scores music again for this film.
Narasimhudu is another enthusiasm inoculation for film lovers. Many have been in the opinion that the film is based on Hollywood block buster ‘Kill Bill’. One has to see how far the makers become successful in tuning that to the image of NTR. The film is set to release on 21st of May.
Whatever be the result of these films when once they hit the screens, they have turned discussion topics among the movie freaks. |

Audio Rights Of Chiranjeevi's Film At Rs.1.25 Crore!
As per the sources, the audio rights of Chiranjeevi's films are being offered at a whopping price of Rs.1.25 Crore.
On the other hand, the films with lesser star value are being given free of cost to audio companies to gain the credit of conducting audio opening functions. In turn it would also support the publicity of such films.
Besides this, the producers of a few films are lining up in front of audio companies to get their audio approved for marketing. Audio companies are saying that they would give a royalty of Rs.4/- on the sale of every cassette.
Audio sales used to be encouraging and both the producers and audio companies used to get benefit mutually with this business. But when the CD culture and MP3 system was started, dark days have started for this business. Piracy is the major constraint for this imbroglio. The CD that reads its MRP as Rs.90/- is being dumped into MP3 and getting released in the market with one fourth of the cost.
"Audio companies should focus and switch over to video CD business to sustain in the market", says the proprietor of a renowned audio company in Hyderabad.
"The sale of 5000 cassettes or CDs brings a profit of Rs.40,000/- (at the rate of Rs.8/- each) when the cassette is tagged with MRP Rs.30/-. Just imagine how many pieces should be sold to recover the amount of Rs.1.25 Crore invested on a film's audio. Even though tagged at Rs.40/- the audio company should sell around 7 lakh pieces to make the break even. It's a Utopian task. None can land up in the profit side. One has to venture to get the credit of buying the audio rights of Chiranjeevi's film, preparing for loss", says Ajay Sharma, a dealer.
However people give their opinions from their side in this matter.
"Today's film songs are turning obsolete tomorrow. They aren't like the songs of golden black and white period. Spending hundreds on today's film songs is not worthy. I dont say 'no' to my children when they are getting them at lowest possible prices in the form of MP3s", says Savithri Kumari, a house wife.
"Why should we spend more when we are getting the same quality for lower prices. It carries no logic in saying that people should co-operate in controlling piracy. What does that mean? Stars and directors grab huge remunerations from producers and producers fall on people to fill the gap. It's funny. Everybody should limit their desires and make films with limited expenditures. MP3 culture cannot be stopped", says Viswanath Chakravarthy, a BPO manager.
However, people seem to be talking not against piracy. Let us see what care does the producer of forthcoming Chiranjeevi's film, 'Andarivadu' takes to shield from piracy. The film is set to release next month and audio very shortly. |

Bangalore IT workers attacked
It's not working late that’s worrying call centre staffers and techies. It’s getting home that they are becoming increasingly paranoid about.
Cases of Business Processes Outsourcing (BPO) and Information Technology (IT) workers being waylaid, assaulted and robbed on their way home, even if they have been in company vehicles, has made returning home late virtually an ordeal for many.
The recent murder of a techie is only adding to the existing fears. A significant percentage of workers in the IT sector work night shifts. In the BPO sector, it is said to be over 90 per cent.
Many call centres and IT companies are located away from the heart of the city and vehicles can take up to an hour or more just to drop an employee home.
Fear Factor
Techie Neeta Ramesh (name changed) says, "This is frightening. Not just for BPO or IT workers, but for anyone who is out late."
“A woman techie was mugged at 9 pm and that is not even late! The nature of our industry is such that we can only work late hours.”
“Recently, a van with six call centre employees was stopped and everyone was made to get out. Then they were mugged. We have requested the company to provide buses instead of cars or vans now.”
“The only solution to this is increased patrolling on the ring roads and peripheral roads. Law enforcement agencies must wake up to this growing problem."
Ladies First
Paul P, BPO worker says, "The target is mostly techies and BPO employees. The problem is compounded by the fact that the bulk of such employees are not from the cities they work in and do not speak the local language.”
"Moreover, a sizeable proportion of these employees are women. Many such incidents go unreported. Some companies are employing guards to accompany vehicles ferrying women employees, as a precaution.”
"Right now, the company provides security guards in vehicles where the first pick-up is a girl or the last drop is a girl. For cabs where the first pickup is a guy, there are no such provisions."
Safety In Numbers
Why do some of these employees prefer not to use company transport?
Says a call centre floor manager, "Several companies offer reimbursement if employees use their own transport.”
“Others pay for employee parking spots and discount fuel bills. So many people prefer to use their transport. But with all these incidents taking place, I’m sure everyone will get back to using company transport again. Plus, I think it is more convenient if you have your own vehicle."
Going The Extra Mile
What are companies doing to give employees the reassurance they need?”
“With the police maintaining that an acute staff shortage is hindering deployment of personnel on the streets late at night, many companies are now hiring extra security to accompany the company vehicles.”
The duty manager of a leading call centre says that all their vehicles, even the ones with male staffers, are provided with guards.
"It is incumbent upon us to ensure our employees reach home safely. So, we have put processes in place to ensure that security of our staffers is taken care of. We also ensure that the verification of drivers and the travel company is done before hand."
The floor manager of another leading call centre adds, "This is already being done in cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Since we introduced guards accompanying our vehicles, our staffers say they feel more safe." |

Ramoji Rao mediating between NDA and Naidu?
Bharatiya Janata Party seems to be desperately trying all methods to woo former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu to stay back with National Democratic Alliance and not to make any efforts towards a probable Third Front.
BJP national president L K Advani knows Naidu is a hard nut to crack and that he doesn’t listen to any one. Of course, except his friend, philosopher and guide Mr Ramoji Rao, the doyen of Telugu journalism. And incidentally, Ramoji Rao is an old pal of Advani. So, Advani is learnt to have decided to play Ramoji card with Naidu.
Sources say, Ramoji played his role in convincing Naidu not to desert NDA at this juncture, since the political situation at the national level is still fluid. And Naidu reportedly assured Ramoji Rao that he would not take any hasty step at this moment and would take a decision only at an appropriate time.
At the same time, Naidu made it clear to Ramoji Rao that the TD would not sail with the BJP in all its political strategies. He told the same to Advani, too, when the latter called him up on Monday night to join the other NDA allies in boycotting the rest of the Parliament session demanding removal of tainted ministers from UPA government. The TD, which boycotted the session on the first day, decided against joining the NDA in boycotting the rest of the sessions! |

Celebrities, Film Stars And Restaurants!
We have heard of film stars turning politicians. But now the trend of film stars turning restaurant owners is running. Suniel Shetty is known for Hyderabadis as ‘MischiefMan’. He owns the most sought out Mischief Restaurant.
Similarly, Tendulkar in Mumbai started his own opulent restaurant.
Chef Sanjeev Kapoor set a trend and brought glory to cooking and restaurant business being a celebrity.
We know this trend is an import from Hollywood stars, who often successfully combine their acting careers with running restaurants. But the concept cannot be called a runaway success in this part of the world.
Else, we would not have a list of eateries started with fanfare and now either closed down or tottering. Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja would have long ago become a cricketer-turned-restaurateur with his now defunct Italian joint in Vasant Vihar, Senso. Socialite Bina Ramani would have done without attracting the spoilt richie-rich crowd and making a mess of Tamarind Court, long dead though not mourned. Varmans' of Dabur fame would surely have an extra reason to go smiling to the bank with the sensation of Forum. Film directors Rakysh Mehra and Satish Kaushik would have been in the foodies' list of dos for their stand-alone restaurants, Baoji in Gurgaon and Khana Unlimited in Connaught Place.
Though Delhi is not quite often the first choice for celebrities to open restaurants, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Pune have quite a few names in this category already. While the latest to create ripples in Kolkata is Sourav Ganguly's signature restaurant, Sourav's, on the lines of Sachin's Tendulkar's in Mumbai, filmmaker Gautam Ghosh with his outlet Bhojo Hari Manna and Sanjeev Kapoor's Grain of Salt opened there some time ago.
In Hyderabad, besides Suniel's restaurant, there is actor Nagarjuna's Touch.
In Bangalore, there are theatre person Arjun Sajnai's ‘Sunny's’, designer Jamila Suresh Malhotra's ‘Sheesh Mahal’, designer Himansu Dimri and Sonali Sattar's ‘Grasshopper’, Vikram Thapar's ‘Tiger Bay’.
Stepping further is the Mangeshkar family, apart from the family running Sarjaa in Pune, Asha Bhonsle runs a signature restaurant, Asha's in Dubai. But Mumbai seems to be the clear hub for celebrity restaurants.
Amisha Patel's ‘Fireplace’, Dino Morea's ‘Crepe Station’ are a few more on the ever-growing list. "But the celebrities should remember that the punch line here is great food. “The customer is the celebrity when you run a restaurant," sums up Prahlad, a celebrity and restaurant owner. |

Ranganath Says About Hips Of South Indian Heroines!
Senior film artiste Ranaganath says the reason for the inflow of Mumbai models in Telugu Industry in an interview given to a magazine.
He says, “Melodrama has gone out of focus and thus the performance based movies got locked in the cup boards. The trend of entertainment stretched new wings. Film makers have to please the eyes but shouldn’t tax the heads of the audience. Hence the focus on heroines’ body increased. The hip and middle part of the bodies of South Indian heroines looks a bit heavy. Hence they appear awkward and vulgar when exposed. But Mumbai models look trim and slim. Their life style itself is different. They swim, do exercises and genetically they come out with good figures. So they suit better for exposing without vulgarity. Hence the choice for Mumbai models increased now”.
He seems to be straight forward and delivered the truth. But many of the film makers are saying that it is only a trend. Ranganath could say the real reason indeed.

Ravi Teja Appointed A Beautiful Dietician Cum Secretary!
Ravi Teja looks as if he reduced 5 years of his age now. He burned lots of calories to look slim with sharp face in the movie ‘Bhadra’. He has been in dieting and rigorous exercise since he signed up for the film. He consumed only protein food shunning all the fatty stuff. He also faced many troubles like running low sugar in the body for not taking sufficient rice.
Later, with the advice of his film makers, he appointed a female dietician for himself and kept on maintaining the diet and exercise. The qualified and beautiful dietician turned almost a private secretary to him. But still, he was hit by a recent sun stroke during the shooting.
He took many such pains for better look.
“He is looking more active since the dietician came on his way”, says the film circles. But she never appeared open and was never caught by media cameras. However, it’s Ravi Teja’s private matter. Public has nothing to do with that.
Let us wish that this film brings results to Ravi Teja for the efforts he put. |

Comedian Venu Madhav seldom trusts people in film industry- producers in particular. If they are new to the industry, his distrust grows. He demands his remuneration as a daily wage from them. He is not sure of their immediate future too. Make hay while the Sun shines- is his favorite maxim. How ever, he has a small exception for senior producers. There has been hectic activity on the sets of Narasimhudu. Efforts are on to release the film on NTR's birthday, which falls on May 20. The film is getting final touches and the crew is working overtime to ensure that it releases on D-Day. The actor, who had two flops in Andhrawala and Na Alludu and a mediocre hit in Samba, is hell bent on recreating the Simhadri magic. Roja to say bye bye to TDP?
Film actress Roja, who has played a major role in Telugu Desam politics till the last Assembly elections and unsuccessfully contested from Nagari constituency in Chitoor district, is understood to have decided to keep herself away from TD.
She has apparently taken the decision, as she was fed up with the district politics, and lack of response from TD president and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Before the last elections, she was a star campaigner for TD -- remember, how Roja, with her glamourous presence at the Mahanadu public meeting, overshadowed another star Jayaprada, who finally chose to quit the party to join Samajwadi Party and later got elected to the Lok Sabha from Rampur in UP. Now that Naidu lost power and thus last his charm, Roja has felt sidelined. Moreover, she is now a mother of a baby girl, she has gone back to Chennai along with her husband Selvamani, saying goodbye to TD politics, at least for the time being! |

ANR Is 81, But His Mind Is 18!
Akkineni Nageswara Rao is still young in his talks and gestures. Only a few could believe the truth that he is an octogenarian. He is 81 now.
But he started cracking jokes with Ravu Bala Saraswathi, the renowned singer of his time, on the occasion of ‘Melody Queen Musical Nite’, and laughed pleasantly for quite a long time.
Dr. C. Narayana Reddy, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and Ravu Bala Saraswathi have sat side-by-side. While Dr. C Na Re was reserved, ANR was jovially sharing some moments with Ravu Bala Sarasawthi. She tapped ANR in a moment for one of his naughty jokes.
The people sat behind them were enjoying the jokes cracked by ANR and retorts given by RBS.
In fact, feeling young at heart is the secret behind ANR’s health. He should be a role model for many youngsters who spoil their heads at very young age with unwanted tensions.
